TLDR : Answer Summary
Recent updates indicate that opening a bank account with a DTV visa has become more challenging due to new rules implemented by the Bank of Thailand as of February 17th. These rules will take effect 30 days post-publication in the Royal Gazette, which is a necessary step for the validity of new laws in Thailand. Additionally, due to Thailand's participation in the Common Reporting Standards (CRS), banks are now requesting more information from foreign account holders, including details about their country of tax residence and Tax Identification Numbers (TIN). Some users have suggested waiting for further clarifications before attempting to open an account, while others express their experiences of successfully opening accounts before the new regulations came into effect.
I would wait a month or two and let the dust settle on the clamp down on scam accounts. The agents I would avoid using as they will up the prices now if you can find one.
Prices have definitely gone up if you can find agent to do it. The bank requirements are not going to change though regarding CRS and needing to provide information for that. The linking of Sim to passport to Account will be in place soon along with facial ID. Need to keep phone numbers alive or set up again at bank
yeah yesterday I went to visit TRUE to have my middle name added as I had a message from the bank that it didn't match my passport. Never a dull day in Thailand always a hoop to jump through.
Was just reading about a guy who had phone account through wife's ID card. Needs his own phone account now but he is not in country much as they live in Europe and not planning to be here till June.
Oh. Thanks for the heads up. I need to check my AIS matches my passport and account. It should do as opened as post-paid with a Work Permit but I better check.

Latest info 1) it became harder to open accounts on 17th February with new Bank of Thailand rules. They are published in the Royal Gazette (new laws in Thailand need to be published here to be valid) and 30 days after publication they are active 2) Thailand signed the agreement Common Reporting Standards (CRS) in 2023. Signatory countries swap financial information of it citizens. Thai banks are starting to ask foreign account holders for details regarding this such as Country of Tax Residence and TIN (Tax Identification Number)
