Tim Newton of Tim Newton Today upped intell three hours ago re the bank account drama.

TLDR: He strikes a more positive vibe and in essence it’s “hold tight” as the situation is developing. His sources indicate it might blow over in as little as a few weeks.

He does state that reports are correct that there’s no “goverment decree” ban but that tightened diligence is effectively banning new accounts.

Personally this will deeply affect me. My last several visits (VoA) I’ve been too busy to open an account. I now regret my procrastination. For me it’s about quality of life - easier and cheaper access to transferred funds, ability to use QR, easier online shopping through Thai websites (ever had your non-Thai card rejected?), easier and cheaper transfers to help my girlfriend’s sick buffalo, etc. I’m a very cashless person too.

I am currently holding ed visa and will be switching to dtv. I opened a bank account in Krungthai bank with the letter from current school. Will the bank account be still usable for long term even after switching to dtv?

Do i need to update the visa in bank? Will the bank possibly approve for it?

Hi everyone

I’m about to renew my retirement visa.

I have the required 800,000 in a Thai bank account.

I understand that I have to keep a minimum of 400,000 in that account and ensure that there’s 800,000 3 months before my visa renewal next year.

My question is :

How fast after obtaining the visa can I withdraw 400,000?

Thank you.

Hi. I need to open a bank account in Thailand to fund the build I will shortly commence.

What visa do I need to take to the bank to open a current account ?

I will visit over the next few years as a tourist later applying for a retirement visa when I give up work.

Thanks.

Hello everyone, I'm going to get the 1 year non-o extension based on marriage. I already got the 3 months non-o. I successfully opened a bank account in Kasikorn now and i'm going to transfer 400k now to keep there for 2 months.

Can i use the same bank account to pay for stuff here as long as i always keep the balance above 400k?

Can i also just keep using the same 400k to extend the visa every year?

I asked in the bank if i could earn some interest on the 400k and she said i would make 0.3THB a year with the 400k 🤣. Is there a better alternative?

I'm gonna apply for the extension in Bangkok

If I come in from the US on a Non OA retirement visa, how long can I keep my funds in a US bank before I am required to transfer into a Thai account? If and when I am required, may I just transfer in the 65000 baht per month for the first year, or would I need to do the lump sum? I currently earn decent interest on my account, and would like to maintain that as long as possible. Thanks in advance for your help

I am on a retirement visa and have 800,000 baht in a Thai bank in a one year deposit account. I have never touched it, just keep renewing it for a further one year every 12 months. However, on my last visit to immigration the officer was not happy as on the day when the deposit finishes the balance in my bank account is entered as 0 and then back up to 800,000 baht as I carry it forward for another year. This takes a few seconds and the money never leaves my account. Has anyone had a problem with this, any suggestions to stop it happening again.

Retirement Visa Question: if I already have visa but want to open an account with another bank…does immigration allow me to swing to new account or do I have to get prior approval to switch? And if so - what’s the steps?
