The banking system seems to be in shock, and it is even more difficult to open an account due to new directives,

Information I have received is that a non0 visa is required to open an account or proof of marriage etc, ,,(not really new for some banks) the audit of banks ( for lack of a better word ) will take another approx 6 weeks according to my bank. Just to back up the above comment

I would think 5 years is a long term visa, or is that looked at differently?

Normally you get a 2 year license, then automatically 5 years when you renew, that's what happened to me anyway

You apply for that at your Embassy, freedom to marry letter

I went to immigration for the same visa and was going to loose 2 weeks, that was yesterday in khonkean

So going back the day before my extension expires,

Only invest in Thailand if you are prepared to lose your money,

UOB bank do long term accounts with pretty good interest, you may want to speak with them. Different from normal investments

In my humble opinion try and get yourself a 30 year lease from her, (usufruct) that way you can do what you want for that length of time,

And if she wants to charge you rent,
