Following the *"socially in-ept"* post, I thought I’d share my experience from today as well. Before I go into details, I just want to point out that the officer was very likely just confused—I don’t mean to stress anyone out.

Anyway, here’s the story:

I entered Thailand today for my second entry on a DTV. My first time last October went smoothly, and I stayed for about a month.

For context, last year I was mainly on an education visa for 11 months and extended it multiple times. Before applying for a DTV, I canceled the ED visa as usually advised, and I had never overstayed.

In my case, the officer was neither rude nor particularly friendly. (For privacy, I’ll use *they* as a pronoun.) They first asked if I had a return ticket—I said not yet. Then they asked, *"How long are you going to stay?"* I said a few months, adding that I know I can stay for 180 days. (Probably not the best answer—better to have a plan! 😅)

Next, they asked, *"What are you doing here? Why did you stay so long last year? And where are you going?"* I told them I had been on an education visa and was studying Thai (for real). Then I said, *"I'm just traveling,"* and gave them a rough idea of my plans for the next few weeks.

They mumbled in Thai, *"But you already stayed too long,"* then added, *"And you don’t have a visa."* I replied in Thai, *"I do, I have a DTV."* They then checked my passport, found the DTV page, and quickly stamped the opposite page with a 180-day stamp.

So, I wouldn’t say it went smoothly—they asked a lot of questions, and I felt they were a bit suspicious. But maybe they were just confused because of all the extensions I had with my education visa last year. Plus, not handing in a printed copy of the DTV probably didn’t help. I guess an e-visa is more convenient in that sense.

Overall, no big deal, but make sure the officer knows you’re entering on a DTV. A printed copy would definitely help—it would have saved me a few drops of sweat! 😊

I hope this gives some useful feedback to some of you!

Hello! I’ll be travelling to Nepal for 6 weeks and wondered if anyone has successfully applied for the DTV from Nepal? Was it straightforward or complicated?

Hi,

I’m getting my work permit again HR told me to extend my visa on arrival this week even though it was stamped until March 6th, does anyone know what the reason might be for making it before it runs out? I officially start my new job March 1st.

I also went to Imm Building B for my last extension, but they sent me to the IT Square building instead, is that the norm now?

Thank you so much

I have 3 inquiries, can anyone advise :

1) if one stays in Thailand for only 6 months each year , would that mean he only need to do ONE-TIME visa run this way ? :

> Flight to Thailand

> 60 days + 30 days (extension)

> Border RUN ( by flight/road)

> 60 days + 21 days (extension)

> Flight out of Thailand

(Total stay <180 days in Thailand per year )

2) "Visa run" and "border run" means the same thing right ?

3) Is the above method feasible - would this be safe from being questioned by the officers ?

Wow, just got rejected by Los Angeles. All they said was,

"Your visa application has been rejected. Please reapply visa, the name on the application is incorrect. Please fill in the name/middle name/surname/suffix or “-“ or spacing, no more no less, exactly as it appears on the travel document /passport."

I went back in and submitted a new application, this time trying to understand what could have gone wrong. At the final step before submitting, it looks like the system randomly deleted my middle name. I went back to the beginning and filled everything in again. At the final step, my middle name was there. I guess that's it. The first time, I guess I thought maybe it was blank there for a reason, because of course I filled in my middle name.

The lesson is to expect glitches and carefully review the boxes before submitting. That's a great way for them to get extra money on more applications.

Hello, I am at the end of the online application process doing the dtv (plan to go to Laos) and it asks to make the 10k baht payment. I’m wondering if there’s somewhere im not seeing about making an appointment to go to the Laos office. I’m currently in Thailand and know you must exit and apply outside at an embassy. If anyone has done it this way that can inform me, thanks
