Why should I extend my visa on arrival now, even though it’s valid until March 6th?

Hi,

I’m getting my work permit again HR told me to extend my visa on arrival this week even though it was stamped until March 6th, does anyone know what the reason might be for making it before it runs out? I officially start my new job March 1st.

I also went to Imm Building B for my last extension, but they sent me to the IT Square building instead, is that the norm now?

Thank you so much

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster needs to extend their visa on arrival before it expires even though it is stamped until March 6th, as advised by HR, due to the necessity of having the appropriate visa for obtaining a work permit. Commenters clarified that one cannot work on a tourist entry stamp and recommended securing a Non-Immigrant B visa. Additionally, they noted that it is standard practice to apply for an extension at the IT Square building rather than the Imm Building B, particularly when on a free entry stamp.

You will NOT get a work permit as a tourist on a free entry stamp.

Talk to HR as you have to apply for the Non Immigrant B visa before you can get the work permit.

Just for information, your are NOT allowed to work without both documents, visa and work permit. even when your employer tells you no problem we know a police officer in case you get arrested.

Okay, good luck with your visa on arrival and the application for the work permit.

Seems that my explanation was not needed as you know all

I think they need more time on their current stamp to get the whole process done and that's why the HR said to get the 30 day extension taking them to beginning of april

Okay, than my comment was just for information for those who think they can get a work permit based on a visa which you not have

(y) which was a good solid bit of advice 🙂

I would wager you just showed up here and got stamped in FREE for 60 days which is not a visa on arrival, just a free stamp (visa exempt) entry.

Yes all people on free stamp visa exempt/visa waiver entries GO to IT Square Laksi Plaza to get their 30 day extension.

There is no reason to wait until it runs out, in Bangkok you can apply for an extension on a free entry stamp when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp AND you don't lose any time applying early as the extension is added to your current expiration date

If your HR said go extend it, I'd do what they say 🙂
