It’s not directly the DTV, but I just want to share my experience.
I got my DTV, it got stamped as usual for six months, as I had already had a thai driving license, I want to renew which you have to do after two years.
After two years, you get normally five years driving license.
So I went to the "Songkhla Provincial Land Transport Office HatYai” to renew.
After checking with a lot of employers they called the immigration where my certificate of residence was from, and they confirmed my Visa is only valid for six months.
So I got only the license for another two years instead of five because nobody knows what’s going on with the DTV 🤣
But one thing I have to say, all people that are very friendly and helpful, not like at the provincial land transport office in PhangNga.
May I know what do I need to upgrade to 5 years license and then, to 1 year IDP? Also, can you please advise how long it will take for each process? Thank you.
I’ll probably need to buy car and I’m completely lost with all info I find online, so simple question :
Is it easier to convert my Driver licence to a Thai one in Hua Hin or in BKK (or other city?)
Do I need a residence certificate or is it only for buying the car ? Since I’m about to leave the place I rent I don’t know if it’s worth it to ask now.
Just wanted to report that I managed to extend a 2 year temporary Thai driving license into a regular 5 year Thai driving license based on holding a DTV visa today in Chiang Mai. Wasn‘t sure they would let me. Happy they did - as I was growing tired of getting a new license every 2 years.
Hi. I am in Thailand on my DTV visa. I am getting closer to the time of my 90-day reporting. Furthermore, I have international driving license, but it is valid only for 3 months in Thailand after crossing the border. I was planning do the reporting and converting my license to Thai one and do 90 days, but there came an opportunity for a border bounce.
Here is my question: I will be in Chiang Rai soon. Is it a good option to do a border bounce to “reset” 90-days and driving license? If so: do I just need to exit Thailand and do I have to come into Laos? If so, for how long do I need to enter Laos?
1h drive sounds tempting in comparison to 3 days spent in Thai immigration and other offices ;-)
Hi all, just a heads up for people who may have been thinking like me. Ive just been to immigration to get a certificate of residence so I can buy a car or motorbike and get a thai driving licence, they told me you cannot obtain one on a dtv visa only a non-immigrant visa.
Seems a bit bizarre to me as the dtv virtually allows a stay of 5 years(just leaving the country annually ).
