I'm from the UK but haven't lived there for many years. I have been working abroad and travelling non stop for over ten years. I'm currently in Thailand on a tourist visa. What's the easiest way to go about applying for the DTV? I have enough in the bank and do not want to have to go back to the UK if I can avoid it.
Are there any differences in doing it from Laos or Cambodia?
A rough timeframe?
I work for an online teaching company. Is it better to state that, or to say I'm going to have Muay Thai classes (which I am, in fact)?
Applying for the Thailand DTV as a Perpetual Traveler
I'm currently in Bali, Indonesia, and I have a rented apartment in Thailand for utility bills. Originally, I'm from Germany and still hold a German passport. I run an e-commerce business in Estonia, and I would like to apply for the Thailand Digital Nomad Visa (DTV), but I'm unsure about the best approach due to the following reasons:
1. There is no Royal Thai Embassy in Indonesia.
2. What should I list as my home address? Should I use the one in Thailand?
3. I’ll be in Shenzhen, China, in one or two weeks. Would it make sense to visit the Royal Thai Embassy there and apply in person? I noticed that when selecting Shenzhen, it asks me to upload an Entry-Exit Record.
4. What’s the easiest way for me to register for the DTV right now? I’ve heard that applying in Malaysia is relatively straightforward.
Got the top point - if I leave Australia for 11 months and live in 3 different countries none of them for 6 months, and do this year after year - do I keep Australia tax residency?
*Anyone else waiting on the new visa updates for the 5yr DTV? Im 33yrs old coming from USA and with this visa it seems you can only stay 6mo a year so im now thinking to buy a house there thats a little cheaper than I was planning and now thinking I should start looking for another country with a similar easy cheap visa (since im too young for any retirement visa even tho im retired). What other countries that are NOT western that would be good to spend the other 6mo of the year and where cost of living is reasonable and 50-70k usd will get a respectable 60sqm+ condo? Im from miami so im already used to the disgusting 90* 90% humidity everyday, figuring ill spend winters in Pattaya then go to the other country for summer to be a good combo? South of france like Nice-antibes would be great and cost of living is low except purchasing a condo is miami pricing... easy visa tho.... dont want to rent anywhere, so purchasing a property is the critical part of the equation. *
*So what are you guys doing that spend half a year in thailand and the other half somewhere else thats not from the western world?*
Retired USA Expats: If you have a foreign address on file with the SSA, I hope you've received the yearly Form 7162, or will receive it soon. I got mine yesterday. I didn't receive one last year, was ignorant of the form, and got a shock when my monthly payment didn't show up in my Thai bank account. The Manila office graciously helped me to get back in good standing, but it took over 2 weeks for the deposit to hit my account, causing a bit of indigestion over the thought of having to renew my non-O, and start the proof of 12 monthly overseas deposits into my account all over again. If you're retired and receiving your SS benefit, and have your address registered here (or anywhere outside the USA), be sure to fill out and return your form 7162. 🙏
Do you have such of plan B? Let's say that one day they refuse to extend your retirement visa (by any reason) or they tighten the requirements to a point you gonna feel that you can't complied it.
What you gonna do? Do you have somewhere to go back to at home? Start from scratch? Or maybe move to another country?
