Australian passport here, in 35 plus trips to Thailand, I’ve never been asked. But if I was, it’s less than AUD$1000 & easy to withdraw from an ATM at the airport

All charge 220 baht unless you are using a Thai bank ATM card.

How can I open a Thai bank account to deposit 800k before getting a visa, or should I get the visa first?

Very difficult to open a Thai bank account these days, especially if you are under 50 years of age.

I would bite the bullet & pay an agent who can normally get an account opened with Bangkok Bank.

That’s what I did 2 years ago and it was worth every cent
