I am looking for a bit of advice. My wife and I would like to spend regular periods of up to 5 months in Thailand (probably once a year). I understand that there is a 6 month visa, which one can apply for in advace of a visit, but it is only possible to stay for up to 60 days at a time on this visa, i.e. it is necessary to leave Thailand twice during a 5/6 month stay. I also understand that the on arrival tourist visa of 60 days can be extended once by a further 30 days at the immigration office. My question is if we take the on arrival trourist visa, extend it by 30 days and leave the country for a few days just before the 90 days expire, can we come back into the country and obtain another on arrival tourist visa of 60 days? If so, are there limitations on this?
I’m currently in Thailand with a multi-entry tourist visa which I paid for online at the Thai embassy in the UK back in April and did my first trip at the end of June (ie this was all pre the announcement of DTV and other changes in July). Since then, I have stayed in Thailand 3 times for about a month each, with 1-2 week trips back to Europe and to Hong Kong in between.
Yesterday I came back for the 4th time, and immigration was very prickly this time around and required me to purchase a (any in fact) flight out of Thailand within the current 60 day window, which I did.
Now that I’m back, I was however previously planning on doing my first (and only) 30 day extension with immigration in Bangkok in December to extend my stay into early January. After that I don’t plan on coming back to Thailand for a while.
Will there be a risk to that 30 day extension given I’m now on my 4th tourist visa stamp since June, even though I have so far never maxed out my 60 day stays and just made good use of my multi entry tourist visa until now? Or is that all not relevant. I have a TM30 covering the required period for Bangkok already.
Thanks for the add , I've been going to Thailand for 30yr and I get my pension next year I want to go for 6 months next Oct . Thai embassy say can get 6 months visa but have to go out of the country every 60 days , is that correct ?
I entered Thailand already a few times since November 2023 via BKK.
My visa is now until 1st of Feb. I am staying in Koh Phangan. As I planned to stay here 4 months I am thinking about doing a visa run to get another 60days before doing extension to 90days and visarun.
If I am right I can get a tourist visa for 60 days plus 30 day extension. Plus 2 land border runs 30 days plus 30 day extension each. So that is 7 months in total. Is there a way of getting the other 5 months in 1 year to get a full 12 months ie can I do a few air border runs
Is it possible to get a METV without a job? I was denied last time I applied (Washington DC consulate) 6 months ago via their online portal because I’m unemployed. I saved some and am traveling so I won’t be employed for a while.
I’m certain that was the issue bc the consulate and I emailed back and forth a few times about this topic and they specifically said without a letter verifying employment they can’t give me the visa. Is there anything I can do? I can show reasonable savings and I can show passive income (not a lot but decent for Thailand).
Anyone have experience getting the metv? Is it notoriously difficult to get?
Hello, I suppose this is an elementary question: what is the best visa to get (38 year-old, own financial means) who just wants to holiday long-term?? (no muay-thai, no language learning) just the simplest visa for the longest term possible? I suppose that is tourist 30 days+ 2 extensions = 90 days max for the year? Thank you
