I am looking for a bit of advice. My wife and I would like to spend regular periods of up to 5 months in Thailand (probably once a year). I understand that there is a 6 month visa, which one can apply for in advace of a visit, but it is only possible to stay for up to 60 days at a time on this visa, i.e. it is necessary to leave Thailand twice during a 5/6 month stay. I also understand that the on arrival tourist visa of 60 days can be extended once by a further 30 days at the immigration office. My question is if we take the on arrival trourist visa, extend it by 30 days and leave the country for a few days just before the 90 days expire, can we come back into the country and obtain another on arrival tourist visa of 60 days? If so, are there limitations on this?
TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about spending extended periods in Thailand annually. They understand that a six-month visa only permits stays of up to 60 days at a time, requiring multiple exits. Comments clarify the confusion between the reference to a 'tourist visa on arrival' and the visa-exempt entry. A possible approach discussed includes using visa-exempt entry for 60 days, extending it once by 30 days, and merely exiting and re-entering for another entry. A warning is given about potential issues during re-entry, emphasizing the importance of having a return ticket. Additionally, alternatives such as the retirement visa for those 50 and older were mentioned.
