Maybe this is useful for someone, so i share my experience with ny first DTV extension in chengwattana yesterday. I have DTV under the soft power medical treatment category. I went there with an agent who knows I want to go the official route. I brought all documents. But the officer said that I needed 500k baht balance on my account for the last 30 days. I showed him a recently paid medical bill of 200k. The agent and officer agreed that they really shouldn’t expect people who can clearly afford living here to not touch the money for the category they applied and approved for. They said good you visited us now still have enough time to do a border run. He suggested to bring the same documents, especially proof of medical treatment if someone questions about the purpose of stay. Long story short: they were very friendly and don’t like their own rules but give advice on alternative solutions. I knew that the stamp isn’t guaranteed, just tried my luck. He said good thing swiss don’t need a visa for laos 😱

I tried to search in the previous posts but it's kinda unclear. I'm considering quitting my job and spend 6 months up to a few years in thailand/traveling. I CAN'T buy an elite visa but I have more than 500k in the bank. I thought of DTV but since I'm going to quit my job, I believe that my boss won't help me with this task. (I teach in person). I read about some folks applying to DTV for medical reasons and all they had to do is just showing the embassy they booked an appointment at a hospital and their bank account. Does that really work and how it works? I could eventually point out I need to do some dental crowns but not sure if that'd be enough. Do you guys have any advice?

Hi,

I am thinking of applying from Vietnam. I am a US citizen with a American Passport wanting to apply for DTV for medical treatment. My husband and 2 children (3 years and 4 months old) are Bangladeshi passport holders. Will they be eligible for the spouse and children DTV visa? I will be the primary visa holder. How long will the total process be for myself and my family to get the visa if i apply from Vietnam? Will it be quicker in any other country?

Does anybody have experience with DTV from KL?

All documents submitted on the 26th of December last year.

Nothing has happened then, except that I was denied entry to the embassy a few times to speak to someone.

Updates:

1- 8th Jan - request for 4 documents including letter from hospital specifically requiring treatment in Thailand, full passport scan, stamp of entry, and hospital appointments.

2- 13 Jan -Hospital refuses to issue letter except in person, but with some help, was able to get one from the hospital finally.

3- 14 Jan - Submit all documents except entry stamp as Malaysian airports "autogate" entry does not have entry stamp :(

4- 14 Jan - processing pending document change just like it has started.

5- I will go to the embassy in person to prove my location (the entry stamp thing) I hope the security officer will let me in.

DTV - Taipei Experience

Arrived in Taipei 07:30 on Monday morning, at the Taipei office by 09:00. Picked up the DTV 16:00 on Wednesday and back on the plane by 1930! 😂

I have been in/out of Thailand since February 2024 on an MTV and then the latter months on Visa Exemption and decided to extend my stay in the country through the DTV soft power category. Due to a condition, I have to have dental checks every 3 months so, visited the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital Dental department who set up a care plan for the next 12 months. I was able to use these 4 check up appointments plus an up and coming appointment to repair a chipped tooth to qualify for the Medical Treatment category of the DTV. Checked in advance with the Taipei office and they required appointment slips along with a medical certificate from the dentist department.

Submitted it all at 0900 and was told to come back that day at 1530 for a decision outcome. When I returned they explained that the supervisor wanted to have an interview the following day (Tuesday) at 1500. (Panic started to set in) So nervous as hell I was called in to the side room at 1500 and was out by 1504! They just wanted to check where the savings ammount had come from and future pending payments and that I wasn't working within the country. She also asked why did I apply in Taipei and not anywhere else and I was honest and replied with "because I used my miles on EVA which made it cheaper" 😂 She approved it there and then and told me to go back on Wednesday at 1600 to collect it!

Overall the experience in Taipei was great, the staff are very friendly and helpful. I was nervous being called for an interview but she was very nice and didn't make it stressful at all! Would highly recommend the office in Taipei and Taipei is a very nice city although, I was shivering for the entire 3 days. I am glad to be back in the Thai heat!

I was denied to apply for DTV/Medical Treatment (2-year period) and was redirected to "Non-Immigrant Type-O-Medical Treatment."

Why did they do that, and what is the difference between DTV/MT and NIT-O-MT for me in this case?

Double success story from KL! I'm so happy to finally be able to make this post. Hopefully, it will help people intending to use the Kuala Lumpur embassy for their DTV.

I used the soft power (medical treatment) route for my DTV. Initially provided a 3-month treatment plan, bank statements for 6 months, passport, photo, etc. After 6 business days, they requested additional documents:

* All passport pages including empty ones

* 1-year treatment plan

* letter from the hospital "that you have conditions that specifically require medical treatment in Thailand"

I requested these from the hospital and they were very kind to respond quickly, so I uploaded the additional documents on the following day. After 5 business days my DTV was approved, total waiting time a little over 2 weeks.

It was time to start the process for my wife, which I expected to be faster and more straightforward...

She applied for DTV the same day I got mine, selecting the spouse route, provided the basic docs and our marriage cert. After 5 business days, additional documents were requested:

* All passport pages including empty ones

* Proof of prolonged residence in Thailand for at least 6 months, such as a condominium rental agreement, lease agreement etc.

* A copy of the company's registration/business license and employment contract of the main visa applicant - A professional portfolio showcasing digital nomad, remote worker of the main visa applicant.

Luckily, we already had the rental agreement, but the last one was a bit confusing. In its place we submitted a document with a cover page explaining that I got my DTV for a medical treatment and provided all related docs. After 6 business days, she got her visa, again the total waiting time was about 15-16 calendar days.

After listing the facts, I want to share some personal thoughts:

* You may want to reconsider the medical route in KL if you don't have a valid medical condition requiring a one-year treatment and arrangements in place with a hospital ready to provide you with all the paperwork.

* As you see, they might request seemingly unrelated things, but be ready to just work with them and you will get to the finish line. Maybe it is best not to argue or ask questions, just give them the requested documents.

* Waiting time is obviously longer than other options in Asia, waiting for weeks while reading how people get approved in days or even hours was not fun. We had enough time so it wasn't a problem for us, plan accordingly.

* Some of the additional documents requested were unexpected. Some people may use the word "strict" to describe their policy; read my case and decide for yourself.

I want to thank all of you who contribute here, this group has been a great source of information!

American citizen, looking for some help with DTV application under soft powers medical treatment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I am currently in Thailand, and am receiving long-term medical treatment. I plan to fly out and apply for the DTV in a nearby country in the upcoming weeks.. I am not sure which country would be best for my situation. My questions are as follows:

I just recently (in October) put enough money into my bank account to meet the 500k requirement, but I see that some Thai Embassies may require bank statements from the last 3 months. Is there any country near Thailand that has an embassy that only requires the current month bank statement/balance?

Also, I read on one post that someone's DTV for medical treatment application was denied because the name of the doctor on the medical letter was not on the clinic/hospitals website. Has anyone else run into this issue and what embassy was this at? The clinic where I am currently receiving treatment does not have a website (it's complicated), so I am not sure if this would be an issue.

Once again, thank you for the help!
