Can I apply for a Thailand DTV visa for medical reasons without employer support?

I tried to search in the previous posts but it's kinda unclear. I'm considering quitting my job and spend 6 months up to a few years in thailand/traveling. I CAN'T buy an elite visa but I have more than 500k in the bank. I thought of DTV but since I'm going to quit my job, I believe that my boss won't help me with this task. (I teach in person). I read about some folks applying to DTV for medical reasons and all they had to do is just showing the embassy they booked an appointment at a hospital and their bank account. Does that really work and how it works? I could eventually point out I need to do some dental crowns but not sure if that'd be enough. Do you guys have any advice?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is considering quitting their job to travel in Thailand for an extended period but is unsure about how to obtain a Digital Tourist Visa (DTV). They have over 500,000 THB in savings and have heard that some individuals secured a DTV for medical reasons with minimal documentation. Various community members provided suggestions, including securing a lengthy treatment plan from a dentist, exploring the Muay Thai training option, and considering other Southeast Asian countries for travel to maximize stay without legal issues. There's caution against using questionable methods, as well as advice about ensuring solid documentation to avoid immigration problems.

I have a DTV based on medical. I told the Doctor, I already was treating with, I was applying for a DTV, he happily produced a form, written mostly in Thai, denoted a couple months of treatment in one blank spot. Signed and stamped it. I also, booked my next treatment, corresponding with my return visit, and had the receptionist print it out on the clinic's letter head. (Versus the usual appointment card). Applied online at the Thai Embassy in the USA at Washington DC. Was approved.

I don't want to f*** up with the country I live in and the thai embassy.... That seems great advice to get in sh*t and big troubles

Go soft power route.

Don't burn your bridges, you don't say how old you are or which country you live in.

Are you old enough to receive a pension that your country will pay in Thailand?

Please do your research about living as an expat.

Good luck on what you choose for your future.

I am in my early 40s and I would never have a pension. I am tired of working and I need to get rid of some stress. I got some saving (small) which could allow me to live for few years without worrying too much and meanwhile figure out what I want to do in life . I currently live in asia but not in thailand. I don't feel that a DTV would burn my bridges, wouldn't it?

, my friend,

I think that you need to find a quiet place to reflect and clear your mind.

Plan for a quality long term life.

Protect yourself.

Good luck

why not spend your time between different SEA countries ,Thailand you will get 60 days +30 extension ,then go out and come back and get the same again ,giving you total of 180 days,then maybe look at Malaysia ,either mainland or Sabah,you will get 90 days free there or Vietnam ,all are great to visit,rather than basing just in one ,as you did say you wanted to travel 🙏🏽🍻

I've spent half of my life in asia and actually I'm a permanent resident in taiwan. I've been to thailand quite a few months during the past 3yrs and I already got asked a few questions at the immigration the other year after 4 months spent there. I want to avoid any issues with the immigration and burocracy.

I recommend to apply with Muay Thai if you have Bank balance 500,000 THB. Need to prepare good documents and submitted all they require it not difficult to get DTV visa.

Get your dentist to detail a 6 month treatment plan with appointments.

will that enough to get 5years of DTV?
Andi ***********
@Michael *********
It is enough to be issued the 5 year DTV. To extend the 6 months stay at an immigration office you would need to show you are still taking treatment. Doing a border run is the easier option.

the point that isn't fully clear to me is, I know that I can get 180+180days. My question is, will I get that for 5 yrs and with that being allowed to live legally in thailand for all those years or it'll be over after that 180+180?
Andi ***********
@Michael *********
You are good for 5 years of border runs.
Brandon ************
@Michael *********
no one can answer what will happen 2 or 3 years from now. But right now you can just leave and return and get a new 180 days without any questions

of course things might change but according to the actual law/rules, can someone stay legally in thailand for 5yrs just by doing a border run every 6 months with a dtv visa gotten for medical reason?
Brandon ************
@Michael *********
no one checks anything when you enter Thailand. Once a visa is issued it cannot be cancelled. So you're not breaking any laws by entering using a visa issued to you.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. 500K + set appointment with a dentist (I do need to do some dental works such a couple of crowns). That would be enough to get a dtv for medical reasons. After I got that, I'll be able to stay in thailand 180 (+180 extensions) x 5years. Is that correct or I'm mistaking something?
Brandon ************
@Michael *********
you won't be able to get extensions. You'll have to leave and return

Which means that I can do a border run every 180days for 5yrs? Is that correct?

Normally you need to sign up for a treatment plan signed off by a doctor and a hospital. It needs to be months of treatment otherwise you could just get a standard tourist visa

the idea of pages like this is info sharing. Which is why people post questions here… not looking for a private tutorial

sometimes, the info to obtain something through an agent cannot be shared in public. Thus, I told him to message me privately. Please spend your time wisely online, picking an argument with me is not the best way to enjoy your time here.
