 I am traveling to London next month to get my work permit (non b) and cannot get a response on email. 

 I did the same in Hull many years ago and it only took a few hours. Does anyone have experience of how long it took in London recently?

Hull consulate no longer exists. Nor do any other ones in the UK. Visas are now only obtainable via the evisa system. Link supplied by

You CANNOT visit the embassy in-person. The Thailand Embassy in the UK has switch to the e-visa system, which means this is now the only way to apply for a visa. They will not let you in the door as they do not want people on the premises any longer.
