If you're worried about the legitimacy of the cooking school.... I visited there, and talked to the staff. They are legit. I signed up for a four week course with them and got my DTV approved in Vientiane, Laos.

I posted the name of the school I got along with my success report for the DTV. Just search my name and you'll find it.

Print a couple of them. (Safety in numbers) Present the printout with your passport upon entry in Thailand. They will put a DTV entry stamp in your passport.

The application fee is 10,000 Baht. Paid in Thai Baht. The nice thing is that they were giving the application fee back to those who were declined.

You can also do an evisa and skip the line at immigration. I think those are 50.
