Coming up on our first 180 days, I have a few questions.

If we decided to do the extension, what’s the cost?

If we extended at the end of our next 180 we have to leave, how long until we can come back?

Is it better to leave and come back before we hit the 180 days?

Thank you guys in advance for your suggestions and help.

I heard that you need to stay in Thailand for more than 180 days to become a tax resident. Does the 180 day count get reset if I leave the country and come back in?

When I travel to another country and return after the 180-day period is over, do I need to show any documents or can I pass with a visa and QR code? I plan to use fast track

Questions about the DTV Visa and Entry Procedures in Thailand

Hi everyone,

I’ve received the DTV Visa (5 years, Workation for remote work), and I have a few questions about the entry process and formalities. I’d appreciate it if you could help me out:

1. TM30 Registration:

Do I need to register within 24 hours of entering Thailand?

Can I complete the TM30 form online, or do I have to visit the immigration office in person?

Is the landlord typically responsible for the TM30 registration, or do I need to handle it myself?

Do I need to complete the TM30 registration again after every re-entry, for example, if I leave for a short trip to a neighboring country and return?

2. 180-Day Rule:

I understand I need to leave Thailand every 180 days. Is a short trip to a neighboring country (e.g., Malaysia) enough to get a new entry stamp?

Do I need to present bank documents or other supporting documents upon re-entry, or is my visa and passport sufficient?

Would a single day outside Thailand be enough, or is it better to plan a weekend trip?

3. Additional Requirements for Long Stays:

Besides the TM30 registration, are there any other formalities I need to complete for a longer stay?

4. DTV Visa Types:

Are there different types of DTV visas (e.g., shorter versions or different conditions)? Some people seem to have only a regular tourist visa—how can I tell what applies to me?

I’m a bit confused by the mixed information I’ve found so far and would really appreciate any advice or tips from those with experience. What should I pay attention to, and how can I ensure everything runs smoothly?

Thanks so much for your help! 😊

Hi all,

I'm a couple of weeks away from needing to renew my retirement visa but thought I'd explore the possibility of going with the DTV instead. The main reasons are that I thought it might be easier and cheaper. My Thai bank account has dipped well under the 80000 baht which means I have to pay more for the retirement visa and I don't think I need to pay for health insurance with the DVT. I do have much more than the 800k btw, just prefer to keep in in my investments if possible at this point.

So, some questions:

1. I read somewhere that I can't apply for the dtv within Thailand. True or false?

1. I also read that I can't apply for a Thai bank account with a dtv but does that mean I need to close my current Thai account?

2. Do I need health insurance with a dtv?

3. Regarding the need to leave the country after 180 days how long do I need to be away for? Can that be done 20 or 30 days before if it's a more suitable time to travel for me?

4. I read that I may be able to just pay more after 180 days rather than leave. Is that true and if so how much?

Finally, if there are any Thai visa services business reading this can you please pm me.

Thank you, Stuart

Was any DTV Holder a Thai-Tax resident (over 180d in country)? What are your tax plans? Since they know all your income in detail.

So I got my DTV Visa in December 2024.

Which one is better to do at the 180-day mark?

Extend it for another 180 days or leave the country and come back?

What are the pros and cons of both?

Hello,

I have a DTV. I will be in Ubon Ratchatani soon and Laos is just a short drive away.

Is there any issue driving over the border and back to refresh my 180 days?

Thanks 🙏🏼

Hi friends! So stoked to have the DTV visa! Question for the group: I arrived the other day and this is what my stamp looks like. I understand the rule about leaving every 180 days, I was just surprised this was the format for the stamp. I asked the officer if it was good for five years, and he said yes, and he had given me the first 180 days. Yet, I’ve seen other people with a full page sticker visa that says 5 years. Am I cool? Do others have this same stamp? Or should I be concerned? Thanks for your thoughts!

6 months plus 6 month extension. Can you do this for 5 years straight or how does it work?
