I want to do a quick Chiang Mai to Laos or Cambodia and back for a weekend, or a couple of weekdays. It's easier, cheaper and hopefully more fun than doing a 90-day report in Bangkok. I'm just wondering if anyone's done this lately and could give input on which country is the easiest and most interesting option. Thanks!!!!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquires about taking a quick weekend trip from Chiang Mai to either Laos or Cambodia for visa purposes instead of doing a 90-day report in Bangkok. Responses highlight the need for visas for both countries, express a preference for Laos due to its relaxed atmosphere and cost-effectiveness, and remind the traveler about the need for a re-entry permit if they are on an extension of stay.
Remember you're gonna hafta buy a visa to get into Cambodia or Lao. :/ .

It's kind of subjective but I prefer Laos over Cambodia. Vientiane, Savannakhet and Pakse are all chilled out. Great food, nice people and not expensive. I guess it depends on what kind of action you want. If you're on an 'extention of stay' dont forget to buy a re-entry permit before you leave. Have fun whatever country you choose.

Semantics guys. Multiple entry permit vs multiple entry visa. Thanks Tod. You know that I know what I'm doing visa-wise. It's just the bloody nomenclature and mechanics of it that screw me up. ๐
