TLDR : Answer Summary
The requirement for the 800,000 Baht when applying for a Non O visa in Thailand specifies that the funds must be held in a Thai bank account in the applicant's name for the extension or renewal of the visa. However, if applying for the initial visa from outside Thailand, the funds can be in any bank, as long as they are in the applicant's name. Once the visa is granted, there are conditions regarding the maintenance of the 800,000 Baht in the Thai bank account.

For the 90-days Non-O visa application in your home country, it can be on any bank account anywhere, as long as it is in your name
For the application to the 1-year Extension of Stay, it must be on a Thai bank account in your sole name
If you do the “change of visa type” inside Thailand from a touristic entry to a 90-days Non-O visa, the money must sit in a Thai bank account in your sole name

If you use an agent to get your visa, they can take care of the 800,000 if you don't want to transfer it for whatever reason or if you don't have it which not everyone has, they offer it as part of the service. I am not sure how they get around the 800,000 but they manage and can get your visa. I know some people don't like using agents but i've always found they save you a lot of time and hassle.
Got to be in a Thai bank earning zilch unfortunately. It's there way of grabbing your money and even then if you transfer 800,k for the non O extension, with the new expat more than 180 days in the country, will it be taxed?
Yes. After you get the extension then it must remain at 800k for 3 months, then can go down to 400k, but needs to be brought back up to 800k 2 months before the next extension. I just left it at 800k all year long.
mine's been in there for 5 years untouched, after my retirement visa lapsed while outside thailand, i went to get another one on this trip, and they said i had to prove the money came from abroad. it's the same money they already approved two visas for. so basically it's tea money or send it out and back in again, or send another 800k.
ok then you will need to transfer it back to the UK and get the bank to send it back to Thailand or if you have any spare money outside of Thailand get it done
Send the extra 800k and use it for living expenses for however long it lasts. I used to keep an extra 400k on top of the 800k for emergency expenses and then added living expenses on top of that.
I’ve got a pensioner LTR now which doesn’t have a bank deposit requirement so I am done with all that.
