Hi all. I'm on a non o multiple entry marriage visa. 1 year but 90 day entry at a time. I am getting mixed information from DLT and IO. I am in Phu Sang, near Chaingkham, Phayao district.
I am buying a car/truck. DLT here are saying I need to be in Thailand for 1 year before I can have it in my name. However, IO in Phayao said to go to DLT, get a letter from them and they will sort the paperwork. Whatever that means.
I understood, before starting this. that I could get a residency paper from IO, take that with seller, to DLT and have the vehicle in my name. It appears not to be that simple.
Not sure what to do? I can put it in my wife's name but wanted it in mine. BTW, we have been married 34 years so no issues there. We both, mostly, live in the UK though I'm now retired and want to spend more time in Thailand.
For anyone needing to renew your Thai drivers license, now is the time to go. You can't get a queue number online without a Thai ID card but they didn't care... just let me renew without a queue number.
With the required doctors note, passport copies and resident certificate in hand, I went to the DL office in Hang Dong (Chiang Mai) at 9:30 am. Handed in the papers, sat for 10 minutes, did the red, yellow, green light test, paid for the renewal, photo taken, done by 10 am.
When I did the renewal two years ago it required the one hour 80's era video and literally four hours of queuing. Maybe the new normal isn't so bad ;).
