Can someone explain the difference in a Non O and a Non AO visa please?

It seems a lot less hassle applying for a Non O as don't need police check or insurance.

I'm 57 so hoping the Non O is the way to go.

I don't have a bank account and can see from other posts that it not possible to get on in visa exempt now.

With a Non O visa is it an easy process to open a Bank account to convert it to 12m?

I have a 90 day non-O (retirement) visa and I want to do a 1 year extension. I'm in Bangkok. I know the earliest day to extend is 45 days remaining. What is the latest date for extending (one year)? Do you have to extend with a minimum amount of valid days remaining on the visa?

Hello there.

It has been a while - five years since we ended our six months in Thailand, six months in the US routine.

I will be traveling to Thailand next month using the 60 day visa exempt option to join my Thai wife who arrived last month and we will depart to the US, together, prior to the 60 days ending.

We are considering returning to our six month/six month return next fall, and realize that things have changed. Previously I would get a non imm o-a visa each year through the LA Thai Consulate - it was straightforward and worked well.

Now I see that mandatory medical insurance has been added to the mix, and as a 74 year old guy, while not a deal breaker, it ain’t cheap.

It seems like the only alternative is to spend 90 days on each visit.

Does this fine group have a solution for me? I am not interested in border runs etc - I just want to get to Thailand each year and enjoy life.

My first 3 month non O retirement visa has passed the 45 days and is now ready for the 12 month extension. Can anyone advise me please on the papers I need to gather before I make my trip to immigration. I know I need to update my bank book just before I go but do I also need a letter and statement from the bank ? Do I need a map of where I live ? Do I need a copy of my rental contract ? I will be applying in Chiang Mai if that makes any difference. Thanks for your help.

I am moving out of the country by the end of January of 2025. Is it ok to use a U.S. address for my U.S. banking accounts and social security or best to report my new address in my new country? I am worried about future consequences.

Hi. If an application is made in Chiang Mai for a 90 day Non O based on retirement do the funds have to be seasoned before the application or is it sufficient just to have 800,000 bht in the account?

i am in cambodia on a retirement visa and plan to retire to Thailand when my visa expires here in September. i have 3 large pieces of luggage and several small pieces too. extra luggage has been an issue at airports in the past so i am thinking of hiring two different private cars to go to pattaya from phnom penh. i have never entered Thailand except by plane, but i did leave pattaya by bus after flying in , last november, because i wanted to know how feasible bus travel is. i don’t really want to travel by bus if possible.

is there an airline that is best for carrying extra luggage?

does entering Thailand by bus instead of plane impact my chances of getting in and then getting a long term or retirement visa?

My wife and I are planning to spend 3-4 months every year in Thailand when we retire next year. My wife is a dual citizen (US and Thailand). I am a US citizen. We were married in the US but never registered it in Thailand. We are both over 60. We are financially secure. We have a house in Thailand under my wife’s name. While in Thailand, I may volunteer my time at non-profit organizations. I’d would like to eventually get a Thai permanent residency (or citizenship) so I don’t have to deal with visas and in later years we may decide to live in Thailand full time. What’s the best path for me to get to Thai PR or citizenship?

Requestimg visa advice:

Over 50. US citizen. Current income from multiple sources - investments, small w-2 income, and interest received from lending money.

I plan on spending ~6 months a year in Thailand, 4 months in Japan, 2 in usa and take short trips around the world. I don't mind getting health insurance in Thailand (currently looking at AXA).

I'm currently back in the US. Looking at Non-O retirement and Non-OA retirement or possibly METV. Ironically the Chicago and DC consulates show different wording for the requirements than each other.

What are the pros & cons to 90 day O vs 1 year OA?

Any experience with Chicago vs DC?

Both consulates require a bank account with a minimum balance but doesn't specify if the account can be outside of Thailand (don't really want to park a bunch of cash in Thai back account if possible plus since I'm not there can't set one up)
