Hey :) I would be so grateful for some advice, please. I’m on a non-B and my work permit will expire on 28 October. I am currently on long term sick leave, and will not be renewing my contract. After the 28th, I am hoping to get a medical visa or an extension of stay on medical grounds, but I’m so confused about what I need to do in order to be applicable for this. Do I need to cancel my work permit by a certain date in order to convert my visa back to a tourist visa so I can get it extended? Or now that the amnesty is extended until October 31st, do I still need to cancel my work permit at all or does it automatically cancel and convert after the 28th? Sorry if these are silly questions, but I’ve never handled this side of things before and am scared that if I don’t do what is needed by a certain date, I might be in trouble! Any help will be very much appreciated. Thanks so much xx

If you're on an extension you would cancel your work permit, get a letter from your employer saying you're no longer employed on xxx date, GO to the immigration office and cancel your extension. AND if the amnesty extension gets approved you would go automatically on the amnesty until the 31st of Oct.

To get a medical extension of stay you get a letter from a doctor or hospital and go apply for one at the immigration office. An extension based on medical reasons can be issued for no longer than 90 days at a time. AND it's totally up to the immigration office based on the documentation you give them from the hospital/doctor as far as how long they issue it for

as long as you have the receipt that the work permit was cancelled and the other documents you need from your employer to cancel your extension you will be fine.

Keep in mind it is YOUR work permit not your employers and if they don't wanna cancel it you need to..

Are you on a non-B visa <- a sticker from a thai consulate that you got in another country OR are you on an extension of stay <- a stamp from the thai immigration office inside the country?

Thank you so much, Tod. Yes, that's what I meant by 90 day report stamp lol. Although the one I have now says 'This is not an extension of stay. Please notify your address again on 5 October', so hope that still means it is OK to be here lol :)

there is no 90 day report stamp :( How about you just LOOK in your passport at the current stamp you have from immigrations and see what the wording is under the location of the office that put the stamp in the passport?

It should say "extension of stay permitted until....." and have a date. That means you're NOT on any visa, but on an extension of stay and then you would follow what I wrote below.

okay first off your work permit <- the book from the Ministry of Labor has NOTHING to do with this. that is not what's letting you STAY here in thailand, it's what's letting you WORK here.
