Hello community

Background info:

I have resigned from my job with effective date 31st of December. I don't know how, but my employer will have my extension of stay running until the 19th January. 

The HR office is taking care of work permit and visa cancellation. I will drop my passport to them on the 27th December and they will return it on the 30th. 

I know this sounds unusual but actually my enquiry here is about something else :) 

I am currently discussing potential employment with another company, however this might take few weeks in order to happen, so chances are that it will happen after 19th January which is when my current extension of stay runs out.

If that's the case, I guess I could apply for Covid extension? 

The question is: 

what happens visa wise if I am offered the job? 

Do I need to leave to get the visa? or is it possible within the country to sort this out?

As it is your passport and your Work Permit and YOU are responsible for it, I would strongly advice to join to the office to cancel Work Permit and Extension of Stay.

Don't let others walk around with your personal documents and keep fingers crossed it all goes as planned. Special when you need another Extension of Stay to bridge the period to new employment.

You could apply for a covid extension to 'bridge the time' gap between when this current extension is cancelled and when you would have documentation to apply for a new yearly extension of stay based on employment at the new employer.

I would certainly have them talk to the immigration office to make sure it can work before I put all my eggs in that basket though.

I would imagine you are on an "extension of stay" based on employment and NOT a 90 day Non-B visa, correct?
