Hey everyone,

I’m currently in Thailand and want to apply for the DTV visa. As far as I know, it can’t be done directly from Thailand. Has anyone experienced this and knows the best way to do it?

I’m considering traveling to a nearby country for a week, like Bali or Sri Lanka, to apply from there. Does anyone know which country is best for this and how long the processing time usually takes?

Since the processing time is unclear, I assume I’d need to book a one-way flight and wait for approval before booking a return ticket – or is there a better way to handle this?

Thanks for your help! 🙏

Suggest you don't apply in Bali or Sri Lanka unless you research their requirements and user results completely. Suggest you use a closer country having a proven track record with predictable requirements, results, and timelines.

You don't need to remain there. My friend applied for the visa, after he went to Thailand with a tourist visa. When they accepted the visa, he left Thailand again to get the DTV visa.

some have managed to get away with that but it's a risky strategy

i believe you, i just know, that it's possible

people have been asked for copies of every page in their passport to prove they are still in the country they applied in just before issuing the visa while others have been called in for interview. It's really not worth taking the risk

use the search in this group, there is plenty posts and info regrading your questions.

You need to leave Thailand and enter another country to apply from that country, then remain there until the process is complete. Check the websites for Thai consulates in nearby countries for their requirements and how long they take to process applications

HI John, I just applied for the DTV while in KL and entered Thailand the next day. I was just asked to resubmit my passport with every photo inside which shows that I'm now in Thailand. How does that affect my application? If it's denied, is is it still possible to reapply or will I be blacklisted?

it makes it very likely that your application will be denied and you will lose the fee already paid but you won't be blacklisted so you can apply again
