What happens if you miss your 90-day reporting in Thailand?

Just wondering if anyone here have missed their 90day reporting? If so, what happens? I was having a discussion with a friend who also has a DTV and he’s convinced that we don’t need to do 90 day reporting - just the 180 border run / extend. From what I’ve read in this group, it seems to be mandatory. Any thoughts welcome, thank you in advance 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
In Thailand, if you miss your 90-day reporting, you could incur a fine, typically around 2,000 baht, when you eventually visit an immigration office for any service. It's important to note that the reporting requirement applies to all visa holders except those on an LTR visa. Failure to report may result in a record against you, which could affect future interactions with immigration. Some people suggest that nothing happens if you don’t go to the immigration office, but that perspective could be risky, as fines may come into play during future visits.

Staying 90 consecutive days in Thailand requires a 90-day report to be filed. The consequence is a single 2000 baht fine whether you miss one filing or a dozen filings. The fine would be issued when you visit an immigration office and request services and they happen to check. A TM30 needs to be filed beforehand to complete a 90 day report.

1. That’s the law, and it applies to all visa holders (except LTR). Like in any country, you can try to bend the rules until you get caught.

2. Plenty of people have been fined for this, so don’t listen to those who claim otherwise.

3. It’s a very simple and quick task to complete—no excuse except laziness and disregarding the rules of another country. Definitely not a great start after receiving a cheap and easy five-year visa.

4. Immigration keeps track of these details and may use them against you later.

5. The next time you'll need documents from immigration, get ready to pay for fine.

Your friend is right, nothing will happen, as long as you don't go to the immigration office. Ignore these repliers saying you'll "be fined". Nobody is looking for foreigners who didn't do their 90 day report. It's only an issue if you take yourself to an immigration office, which being on a DTV, I have ZERO clue why anybody on a DTV would do that.

except that you have promised to follow all Thai laws including immigration policy/laws. Please don't coach people to evade this and other laws when a guest in Thailand.

What are the use cases that require one to visit immigration before doing a visa run every 180 days?
Thuy ******
Use cases = common scenarios

Still seeking for an answer to my original question.

and you're still trying to not follow the rules of Thai Immigration. WHY ???.. if you are not going to follow Thai Immigration rules, suggest you find another country to visit.

This is a process question not an opportunity for people to judge other people. People can make their own educated risk based decision based on what the process actually is. If there are no common scenarios or reasons to visit immigration prior to the 180 day visa run then most people would ask themselves “why do the 90 day reporting?” if the only enforcement is at the immigration office and if you do get caught outside of immigration, paying 2000 baht might be worth the risk.

if you want to break Thai Immigration laws... Which states you are required to file a 90 day report whenever you are in Thailand for 90 days.

Just do it. If you want to ignore Thai Immigration rules.

No need to ask us. Good Luck 🍀

@James *******
stop assuming people will be breaking any processes. People can ask questions about process and not get judged from you top contributors. Plenty of people have not reported and nothing happened except for being judged by people on this FB group. No one is asking you or this group for permission for anything. Stop being so significant all the time and get off your high horse.

It's not about being useful to you; it's about being useful for immigration to keep track of you. As a foreigner in Thailand, you must continuously report your updated address. This law applies to all visa holders except those with an LTR visa.

And will be noted on the system that you did not do it so you'll have a red flag on file .100% have to no matter what visa you have.

Your friend is gonna have an issue

fine can be up to 5,000 Thai baht.

2000THB fine next time you go to immigration. A copy of the 90 day report filing may also be required for the extension.
