TLDR : Answer Summary
Several expats shared their experiences regarding re-entry permits at Chiang Mai airport, indicating it can be quick and simple if all paperwork is in order. However, one commenter pointed out that the re-entry permit desk may not open early enough for early morning flights, causing potential delays. Another advised that it's safer to obtain a re-entry permit at the Chiang Mai immigration office to avoid possible risks such as unexpected closures and lack of necessary documents.
Better you get the re entry permit at chaing mai immigration office it will be peace of mind if you leaving the country ! the draw back to getting re-entry from airport is they close in the night time till morning and you never know when you short of the photocopies or pictures. For me is a not worth risk taking.

and caused problems for some people. Not sure what time it opens, so be cautious if you have an early morning flight.

Paige K Beatrix I understand. Maybe it was supposed to be open the day I was there, but it wasn’t. Several people needing re-entry permits were quite panicked and no one was interested in helping them.

My flight was an early flight, maybe 5:00. It is supposed to open anytime there is an international flight.

I have done it once and I have seen other people doing it. As long as you have all of your paperwork it is super quick and super simple. They were much more lenient about everything.
