TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is inquiring about affordable health insurance options for a retirement visa in Thailand, as they found a quote of 42,000 baht to be too high. Comments provide insights into visa requirements, suggesting that a NON-O visa does not necessitate health insurance while a NON-OA does. Alternative suggestions include entering Thailand on a tourist visa to switch to a NON-O, and recommendations for contacts in expat health insurance, highlighting variability in costs based on personal circumstances.

Hard to say, how old are you, any pre existing condition, what deductible is on the policy, how much is it for. Many different variables, you must compare apples with apples so to speak.

You could speak to Robert Jackson, he is well known for medical insurance for expats here, I took out a policy with him a few months ago, great cover for 26,000thb. I'm 39, so obviously price might not be the same for you being older but worth a chat at least just in case.
incorrect a Non OA you get in your own counrty and is a 12 month visa with no requirement to transfer money in Thai bank unless you want to extend it after 12 months a Non O is 90 days and you can get in your home country or in Thailand and requires money in Thai bank before extending just like Garrett said
thank you... the sites I have read so far did not make this distinction... they mentioned that it was a new requirement though..... would you have an official source for the non O not requiring the insurance?
