I have just received an email notification from the UK embassy saying they will not issue an extension support letter as my current 30 day visa runs out on the 6th April and that I will be allowed to get a standard 30 day extension. I have heard on many feeds that I still need a letter..... Please help me clear this up? Many thanks again

You do NOT need the embassy letter to get the FIRST "normal" 30 day extension on a 30 day visa exempt entry or a 60 day tourist visa entry.

You only need the letter if after you got that 30 day extension you need more time THEN you need the letter.

if you are still in the 30 day period you got on entry into Thailand you can apply for the 30 day Extension of Stay at your local Immigration Office.

thanks very much. I was going to apply for a 60 day family extension.... Do you advise I get my standard 30 day extension the apply agsin for the 60 day extension with the covid letter?
