Hi! 

So I’m British and I came to Thailand on a 60 day visa free entry about 20 days ago.

I heard it’s okay but I want to double check if I can change it to a Non immigrant ED visa. 

I also want to double check if I’m allowed to change my visa type whilst I’m in the country?

(From what I’ve seen, yes)

I start my internship on Monday and the only reason why I didn’t apply earlier is because one particular document was taking FOREVER to arrive. 

I really wanted to come to Thailand a bit earlier than my internship to make sure that I can get things in order as it’s my first time coming here and I have little idea of how things work around here 💔

I have never heard of or seen someone be able to get a 90 day ED visa based on internship inside the country at the immigration office 😮

I know many MANY people who have interned here some for really BIG companies and even they had to exit the country, get a 90 day Non-ED visa from a thai consulate nearby then come back in.

Also I have never seen anyone get an extension on a 90 day Non-ED visa issued based on internship, you always have to go out and get a NEW 90 day visa all over again if you intern longer than 90 days

So seeing as you're already IN the country on a 60 day free entry stamp ask the company you will intern with what you should do <- keep in mind most companies don't know that ALL the thai consulates in the world went to eVisa online system.

So if it's like I believe it is, your company can't get the 90 day Non-ED visa issued from the immigration office and that means you get the documentation, go to a nearby country, apply thru the thai consulate online in that country, upload proof you're there, upload the documents, pay and wait in that country for the visa to be approved, then they email it to you, you print it and present it when you come back in to thailand

It appears you would indeed need to go to a nearby country and apply thru the thai consulate there online, then wait for the visa to be approved

You would want ED visa for this reason

So let's make your situation a bit clearer.

You will do an internship with a private company in Thailand, with support from your university in UK. And you are going to apply for Non-ED based on this. Is this correct?

If Non-ED visa is for studying with an actual school, it is possible to apply inside Thailand at the local immigration office as long as you and the school meet the requirements. But your case is different.

If so, I don't think an in-country Non-ED visa based on internship with a company at the local immigration office is possible. You may need to apply for a Non-ED visa at the RTE/RTCG outside of Thailand.

You need to ask your internship host to contact the local immigration office if it's possible. There might be a recent change.
