if you apply at an embassy outside Thailand (e visa) the money can be in your bank in your home country. It does NOT have to already be in a Thai bank. When you later go to immigration inside Thailand to apply for a yearly extension, the money HAS to be in a Thai bank.

Yes, it is really necessary to cancel it BEFORE you leave. It can land you in trouble later if you dont. Worst case would be a maximum overstay fine up to 20K, from the date it expires. And they might make you cancel it later even though it's already expired. To close the loop. That in itself could be a nuisance, because you need paperwork from the school and you can only do it at the immigration that issued the extension.

in fact many university programs require that you finish the education with an internship. It's not possible to get a work permit on a non ED, but it's allowed to do the internship without one. You just need to do it the official way with the university requesting the internship at the workplace for you, on your behalf.

The acceptance letter from the workplace and the request from the University as such will be your "work permit" and it's specified with the exact period you will be doing the internship.

the fact that it was all very official and verified by both immigration and labor office means it was totally legal. Both the work place and the uni made sure to check individually.

I was already in the country yes, doing my bachelor's in Bangkok. It doesn't take any longer than it takes for the uni to send an official request to the workplace, and for them to send back an official acceptance. For me that was 1-2 weeks because things got sent back and forth a few times due to slight errors in the document, like my birth year.

internship in relation to education is allowed on a non ED visa, and without the need for a work permit.

Doesn't matter if it's paid or not.

Did it myself for 6 months 2 yeas ago, finishing a bachelor's degree here in Thailand.

Got documents from my university and workplace where I did the internship, and it was checked by several officials in both the labor office and immigration. All okayed. Had zero issues with that.

It's not clear what you are asking. What does it mean to cover yourself in regards to Thai authorities? Are you talking about tax implications? Ownership? Asking if someone could think you are working illegally?

I think you have previously told me that IF your country's embassy still does the income affidavit, then you HAVE to use that or 800K banked. No monthly transfers accepted alone then.

At the same time some offices want to see that the money also actually gets transferred to Thailand.

My father for example uses the affidavit from the Danish embassy. And sometimes they (Buengkan IO) want to also see his bank book with the transfers shown. But not every time, which is weird. His transfers are always every month and always above the required 65K.

Don't know what would happen if they weren't.

They have never commented on it, but just occasionally want to see his bankbook too.

Edit: He never gets asked for a bank letter or bank statement though.

If the Thai embassy in the country where you are applying from (where you physically are) only accept card payment, then get a friend/college/family to pay with a card and give them cash. It's not a fortune.
