I've never got Kip when in Laos. Use baht and you'll get baht back if they have any, otherwise your change will be Kip.

i just got one at my embassy...it was 3 times the cost BUT I got it in under 15 minutes and didn't have to sit at Changwattana half the day only to for it be mailed out in 2 weeks time (sometimes it doesn't even arrive)

Just walk a into as many banks as you can and tell them you've got 400k to deposit in a new account. They should jump at it.
