If a foreigner is staying in a property regardless of being on a lease or paying rent a TM.30 is still required by law.

Your best option for this is talking to your landlord or the property agent (if you have one) and explaining that your friend is coming and you would like him to live with you in the property you are renting and will need a tm.30 submitting when he arrives (i don't see it being an issue in all honest because the rent isn't based on number of occupants, it's based on m2, location, amenities etc, and in my experinece most landlord/agents are rather reasonable)

Regardless of how this plans out he will need a TM.30 for the extension, which you will have to submit (if you have the online login details) or you'll have to ask your landlord to submit one for him.

Depending where you are you might be able to get a residence certificate with just a TM.30 without the need for a 90 day report.

Failing that I have heard of people going to immigration and asking for a letter to open a bank account for the non-o extension requirements and the immigration office has given it.

Some banks will accept just the non-o stamp some want a plethora of documents so it's going to require some foot work regardless.

it has been the same since I damaged my passport in 2006 and was told it needed to be replace. You were given bad advice and were lucky nobody was really that bothered back then, but now its at the point that if you have a bio chip passport and the data is corrupt or the chip is damaged and can't be read you'll be denied at check-in as the data on the chip cannot be cross referenced with the passport bio page and most, if not all passport controls will deny you entry for having a chip that cant be used as it could be a sign of passport tampering.

wtf are you smoking? It doesn't matter what your home country regards as a valid or an invalid passport. It's down to the country you are arriving in and what they deem acceptable and unacceptable and this varies country to country and even IO to IO

a lot of countries will now reject a passport with a bio chip that isn't working because the details can't be cross referenced with the actual physical passport and it could be a sign of tampering.

Even airlines can and will reject you for having a corrupted chip or chip that can't be scanned.

Stamps are smeared, faded or gone. Bio chip could also be damaged.

You might get through but in my experinece must IOs will reject it, airline might even reject it too. Just replace it rather than risk it

he is going to spend at least half a year every year for the next 5-6 years travelling Thailand before settling down.

Regardless of what you, I or anyone else thinks or believes, it's his decision and he personally believes and thinks a bank account will be very beneficial to him during those visits before he finds a place to settle down.
