I applied for my DTV via the eVisa route to the Los Angeles Consulate end of Nov 2024 and recently got approved. While I know we were supposed to wait in the US until we were approved, unforeseen circumstances caused a delay. We arrived to Thailand at the end of Dec 2024. Currently I, my, spouse, and children are here on a 60-day visa exemption that will expire at the end of this month.

Now I need to apply for DTVs for my spouse and children. I know we're not supposed to apply while we are in Thailand. We were planning on flying to a SE Asia country to get theirs processed over a couple of days. However, am I correct that there are no in-person appointments in SE Asia anymore, and all applications are through the eVisa portal?

Do we need to leave Thailand, go to SE Asia Country and apply through the eVisa portal for that country, hoping that it gets processed quickly and then fly back in? Going back to the US to apply is not feasible for us. Thanks in advance.

Hello all!

I have a small predicament. My family is moving to Bangkok in may/June and while my husband will be getting a DTV, I’m not sure what I should do. We have a couple kids with us so this is where it gets complicated. While I know we can attach to the DTV as dependents, I’m in university for a TESL degree and need to start an internship in August. If I’m correct, I believe I can’t be on the DTV if I’m also on an education visa for my internship. But… my husband has to fly back to the states in July alone so the kids (who will be on his DTV) will be left with me in BKK. Curious how we should work this… would it be more beneficial to hold off on applying for the DTV until after he gets done in the states (it’s only a 2 week trip), and just hang out on visa exempt for a couple months??

Hi! Has anyone successfully added their parent as a dependent to their DTV? Looking for advice and tips. FWIW, I got my DTV from the Thai embassy in Los Angeles.

Hello,

We are in Thailand. Is it possible for me to travel alone to Cambodia to issue my DTV, return to Thailand, and then, after one month, travel again with my wife and child to issue their DTVs based on mine?

We want to avoid staying abroad for more than 10 days. I understand that I need to first issue my DTV (up to 10 days) before theirs can be issued (another 10 days). This could mean staying abroad for 20 days total with the child, which we want to avoid.

Can you advise?

I have a question regarding DTV. As of this Summer my spouse will officially be retiring from the military. His retirement and VA disability is more than enough to live off of in Thailand which is where I will be for my internship. I’m a full time student getting a degree in ESL with a focus on teaching Thai students specifically. I can stay in Thailand on my education visa during my internship but the husband and kids will be coming with me. He is too young for a retirement visa and he’ll need to be a stay at home parent since our kids need online schooling. Does the retirement income and VA income count towards a DTV? I’ve heard conflicting answers on expat pages so I figured I would try here.

Hi all, here goes.

My wife is planning to apply for the DTV. I understand them I would need to apply and our kids also.

I think there is a speed bump in our way.

2 years ago I had a run in with the law. I fulfilled all my obligations to that issue and all of that.

Because of this, did I ruin my family’s chance at doing this?

Anonymous for obvious reasons.

I haven’t had an O visa for a long time as my stays have only been 1 month at a time.

Can I still get one as my 2 kids are there and they are 20 and 23yr old. I’ve not been able to see my son as he’s been doing 2 years national service in the Thai army and just got out. Someone said I needed 400k but I never needed that before!

Hello, I need advice or feedback regarding the DTV Visa with families.

Has anyone applied for this visa while “including” family members? Let me explain: my partner (we’re not married) and I are both self-employed, and we would like to move to Thailand with our two-year-old daughter next year. After spending more than seven months here during different trips, we are sure of our decision.

Now, we’re considering possibly hiring an immigration agent for some guidance, but I would also love to hear feedback from this community. Do you think the DTV is the simplest and most suitable option for our case? Since we are not married, would that be an issue for being on the same visa?

Does our daughter need an education visa if she attends school there, or can we simply include her on our visa? I am aware that this visa is very recent, and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

Does anyone have experience with applying for the DTV as a family?

I am interested to find out whether it's enough to have 500k in a bank account or if it has to be 500k per person.

If it has to be 500k per person, is it possible to use agents to circumvent this requirement? I am not keen on liquidating investments just for a visa application.

We would probably apply at the Thai embassy in Jakarta.

Update on my post regarding DTV for spouse in Jakarta

I emailed the embassy and here are the info I got confirmed regarding proof of funds and application for dependents

(Note: as our kids are still young we will get them in on visa exemption and let them overstay)

My husband needs to show proof of 500k TBH only once for the both of us

He does not need an appointment

And can submit both our applications at the same time

And I don’t need to physically go there which allows me to stay on Bali with the kids

I will update when we went through the process

Thanks everyone for all the info in here
