Hi all! I’m new to the group. We are looking to retire in about 3 years to Thailand. My husband gets both military pension and disability, which we can easily live off of, but I also wanted to maybe teach English, as a supplemental if possible. I’ve taught both high school and college level English. When we move, I would be 53 years of age. I’ve read Thailand has a strict retirement age, but wasn’t sure if that applied to expats. Any information is greatly appreciated!
Hey , so around the summer of 2027 I’m going to be leaving out the army (not retirement) I’ll be 28 and my plan is to use my gi bill to go to college full time learning Thai for 4 years. Any advice of work from home jobs certifications or savings amount and anything else that is recommended to make the move easier that I should do before I move there. I have 2 years to prep.
Has anyone in here applied for the DTV from the washington dc embassy? When i was looking at the thailand website it says the amount of money needed in your account is set by the embassy but it’s so hard to get a response at the DC embassy. Me and my boyfriend are set to start our expat journey on November 3rd and our first stop is thailand however we are unsure what visa we would need to get! We are currently getting our TEFL and the program would be completed there but i’m getting mixed reviews on applying to teaching jobs before moving vs doing it after moving because of course visa concerns ! Could anyone direct me to a youtuber or a blog with better information ? I’ve been using reddit , national pages and the “Retired working for you “ youtube channel
Im planning on moving to Bangkok in the beginning of June and I’m thinking about getting a non-immigrant O visa. I’m wondering what’s a good program to obtain the correct certification?
So I’m looking to pivot into teaching and I thought teaching english in thailand might be the easiest way to start considering my background isn’t in teaching or childcare- manufacturing/food/skincare, marketing/writing/startups mostly.
I also have an undergraduate degree in business and canadian citizenship so my first question is whether i’d need TEFL certification or even just a free course to understand the style of teaching.
Secondly which areas would be best to earn over 1000USD, and still be able to save a few hundred USD a month ? Also, as a first timer would it be better to go through a hiring agency or platform? (Or chain of known international schools)
Lastly is it better to secure the job & visa first, or visit thailand and get the job in person, and then change the visa from tourist to working after?
I know there are a lot of questions i’m probably missing but i’m hoping these will give me a clearer picture to start the process on my end.
Hi there. Does anyone have any advice for me, I would like to go and teach English in Thailand. Does anyone know of any schools or anything that are looking for teachers, even substitute teachers just so I can get a foot in the door. Or if anyone has any other advice on how I can get over there.
Hey, y'all. I'm thoroughly confused by what I'm learning about becoming a teacher in Thailand. I need help sorting this. I want to make sure that everything I do is legal. I just found this group, otherwise I would have relied on y'all more than the "teacher" groups I'd found so far.
I'm getting conflicting information about needing to have a university degree to teach in Thailand. I had been hearing that it wasn't required. But, then I joined the teacher groups and they say it Is required and that immigration is really cracking down on teachers without degrees.
The embassy website does not say that a university degree is required. It says that degree/diplomas/certificates are required. I'll have my TEFL certificate just not a university degree. The embassy website also says at the bottom that this is subject to change without notice - the standard disclaimer that we see everywhere.
The teacher groups say that the embassy website is inaccurate and we can't trust anything posted there.
I'm not stuck on the idea of teaching but that seems the easiest route if it does not, in fact, require a degree to be legal. I truly just want a legal job that will pay me a living wage and will possibly help with visa application paperwork.
I hope this makes sense and that y'all can give me some valid advice. Thank you for reading this far! 🙏
