I'm sorry if this is old, trodden ground; I tried searching and didn't find anything recent. I was curious about the route from Bangkok to Savannakhet these days, and if there are any caveats about going alone instead of with a group. From what I understand there are Nakhon Chai and Sombat Tour buses from Mor Chit to Mukdahan, and an hourly bus that crosses The Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge 2. Primarily my questions are: during what hours is the bridge open? Is there anything to be aware of, any unexpected or questionable border guard behaviour? I carry a UK passport. I've been on an extension for retirement the past 4 years, off of a Non-Immigrant O that was purchased in Yangon 5 years ago, when I was volunteering with an NGO. I switched to retirement during Covid to avoid having to go out for a new visa. This year, however, I am applying for B visa, having registered and set up a company.
I do know about having to book an appointment, and already have a date booked, but it doesn't coincide with a visa-run van service, so I wanted to check on the latest situation. Also, before Yangon I'd always received visas from Vientiane, so Savannakhet is unknown territory for me.
Update on Poipet Cambodia/ Arunya Prathet Thailand border crossing.
I got a visa on arrival for B2000 (take spare passport photo) but it is highly recommended that you stay one night.
Otherwise the Thai officials could reject your re-entry and you have to start all over again.
Get the exit stamp from Cambodia officials the next day for B600
Walk across the Friendship Bridge to the Thai Immigration to re-Enter, pick up Departure Card and fill it out.
You need to go up one level; try to take the stairs on the right hand side not the escalator on the left; you will save yourself an hour or more of waiting.
I am planning to go to Vientaine for my ED Visa the week of the 19th. Can anyone recommend a company to use for the trip to get me through and back in one piece. Lol. First time and going alone.
I am just returning from Laos, I have a Non O Visa, multiple entry. I had to do my normal 90 day leave Thailand trip. On returning to Thailand after a couple of days in Vientiane, I entered Thailand. Got back onto my bus for Nong Khai. But I forgot to check my dates for the length of my stay, ah always 90 days. Oh oh checked only got 30 days, not the usual 90 days.
So I got off the bus and went back into the border crossing to see the officer.
It always pays to check your dates.
If it is not correct, smile and explain to the Immigration officer.
He fixed and altered the date to 90 Days, and he apologized too !
Visited Phu Nam Ron/Myanmar for a 'bonus' 90 days of a Non-Imm 'O' to find it expired the previous day, was foolishly working on the date of the entry stamp!?! They gave me 30 days, I need a further 30 days before I return to the UK. I'm not sure if I can do a 'visa bounce' at this border crossing or what other convenient 30 day solutions are available other than getting on a plane? I have no 30-day/Tourist stamps other than this one. Any advice is appreciated.
