Hello Everyone-

I am a U.S. citizen currently in Chiang Mai. I have a 60-day SETV and a 30-day extension. I am planning to fly to Yangon to apply for a new 60-day SETV. I am curious as to why most people who submit posts regarding visa-run flights to neighbor countries seem to be going to Vientiane. I chose Yangon because it is less expensive than flying to Laos. Am I missing something here??? Are there any problems that I don’t know about concerning getting a new visa from the Thai Consulate in Yangon? I know that in Vientiane they apparently don’t require proof of onward travel. Is this true also in Yangon? Any advice would be appreciated! I can fly to either location, if necessary.

I guess a lot depends on where you are in Thailand. Im about 80 klicks from the Laos border. Yangon would be a nightmare for me to get to.

Also always check the consulate website for holidays when planning your trip so you don't show up and find they're closed.

I get that flights to Yangon are dead cheap from CNX at the moment (1490 was the price I saw recently) but you're not considering that most who go to Vientiane fly to Udon Thani and bus the difference. Also you can get a VOA for Laos, you need to apply for a Myanmar visa in advance.

The reason people go to Vientiane is it's the easiest consulate in S/E Asia to get a single entry tourist visa from.

Keep in mind that Yangon requires all 3-proof-ofz; proof of about 800USD in a bank account, proof of onward travel and proof of a hotel booking.

If you have no problem meeting the requirements that's a fine consulate to use. It's not busy.

DO check to see if you need a visa for Burma BEFORE you wing your way there though
