Where is the Thai consulate located in Vientiane and how do I apply for a visa there?

One more thing Thomas, I downloaded that form but it was different from the forms available at the Consulate (inside the building left of the seated area). Just as easy to pick up a form at the consulate and fill it out while you are seated in the queue.

Yes, it's the consulate on Bourichan Road, NOT the Embassy. I'm sure every tuk tuk driver in town will know the way, or better still get yourself a bicycle and cycle there - it's one of the few capital cities left in Asia where you can easily (if a little sweatily) cycle. Also enjoy beer Laos for the equivalent of 30b - those glory days have long gone from Thailand!

I was there a month ago. Crossed the border around 6.30 am and there was only one other fellow applying for the VOA, so not necessarily a herd waiting to go into town and to the consulate, that was on a mid week day though. You can get a 40 baht sawngthaew 100 metres from immigration on the right hand side next to a couple of shops. That can take you to the bus station. You can either walk from there to the consulate (20 mins.) or if it's too hot get a tuk-tuk (no more than 100 baht) From the border tuk tuk drivers will offer anything from 200 bt-300 bt to take you to the consulate. There is an okay hotel 100 metres or so down the road from the Consulate, called the 'Douang Praseuth' hotel..I think it was about 700-800 baht...with breakfast and wifi.

Face it, if you're crossing the land border at Nong Khai you ain't gonna be the only foreigner slogging to the thai consulate in Vientiane and all the people that do transportation off the bridge there know where you're going.
