Work permit cancellation options

I know if you have a non-Immigrant B visa linked to your work permit and the work permit gets cancelled so does the visa.

What options are available to stay in the country if this happens?  His work permit will end on November 18th.  My friend would like to stay for another month and his school said he could get a covid extension but is this possible?  I mean if his work permit is cancelled and his visa is cancelled he won't have a visa.

He's a UK citizen if that makes any difference and is planning to return to the UK mid-December.

Is he on extension based on employment or he is still on the first 90days from the visa? and when does his current admitted-until-stamp expire?

If he is on extension, he needs to apply to cancel his work permit and his current extension, then apply for a Covid extension.

If he is still on the first 90days, just cancel his work permit, apply for a Covid extension.

, Go to cancel his WP, bring the receipt of cancellation of WP to Immigration office to cancel his current extension, then apply for Covid extension.
