Hey just thought I would let people know that the border at Ranong is a very simple bounce in and out. Did it yesterday myself and it cost me 2600 thb and was over and back within the hour and I was the only one. I’m on a non o visa by the way.

He may have a 60 day multiple entry that last 6 months stay 60 days get a 30day extension then you have to leave to get another 60 days.
I have the same e visa ,if you have got the same visa you don't need to get a 30 day extension just simply do a boarder run ever 60 days can leave as often as you want and get 60 days on re-entry.
Yeah but the casino and hotel is now closed. Have to go to the mainland now which is ok but no where near as nice as the Grand Andaman hotel as you know.

I've done that trip a few times I enjoyed it ..spent a hour at casino / hotel. A good day out
Price was 1900 all last year, use that price as a guide. There's a tiny office in the far corner of the 7-11 forecourt 'local boat charters', can assist.

Went to Ranong. Office there refused to let me do the vosa without a flight booked out of thailand. But it was obvious that it was never going to be right untill i give the agent there 2300 baht. Then everthing was okay. 😮 Amazing transformation. I have a Thai Lady i stay with. It is worked between the immigration office and the agents. All farangs are going to find this.
I did the trip back in February on a non-o marriage. They wanted to see an onward flight and I had to fan out and count 20,000 baht in front of the boss before I stamped out. I paid 1000 baht for a boat over and back for two people, not including visa stamp fees on the Myanmar side.
on what kind of office in Ranong were you issued a "visa"? There is no Thai consulate on the Myanmar side, where you could apply for a visa. And on the Thai side, there only is Thai Immigration. Thai Immigration would not issue any visa to you. Maybe you confuse the "admitted stay" stamp with a visa.

Before i went on the longboat the office at Ranong. All problems go away when you have a agent.

Could it be that you are mistaking the need to leave the country with a 90-day report of your residence ? Non-O does not require you to do a border bounce
Depends, there's two types of non'O' visas. Three month single entry and twelve month multiple entry. Both these have to be sourced in your own country from the Thai Embassy. The three month one can be extended by twelve months, that is an extension based on retirement. The twelve month multiple entry is based on certain criteria to apply for it in your country before you travel.
it can be any country outside of Thailand. I have applied for my visa previously many years ago in Malaysia which is a little more lenient. Now that Australia and many other countries offer the visa online and they don’t offer a 12 month multi entry as they did before.
A multiple entry Non-O such as the marriage one from Savannakhet is a 12 month Visa which gives you 90 days entry As such there is no 90 report as you have to leave on/before 90 days and re-enter.
Greetings all, I’m here with a retirement NON IMM multiple entry. I have not yet used it (meaning I have not left Thailand since acquiring my visa in late January.)
My question is: will I have to pay a fee once existing or re-entering the Kingdom as Nathan did. This was unknown to me ~ Nathan’s post. Thanks in advance!
You are not on a multiple entry non-O like the OP, you're on a retirement extension and have a multiple entry reentry permit. Unlike the OP, you don't have to leave the country unless you want to. There's no fee for coming back in with a reentry permit - the OP just paid for transportation and facilitation (and presumably an entry fee for Burma) in order to get his new three month stay as quickly as possible. If you take a trip somewhere and reenter normally, Thai immigration will just stamp you in with no charge.
I drove my self to Ranong and to the pier and I paid 2600 to the small office. It’s the only option so I’m guessing it’s an agent but very simple process so I’m happy to pay and no worries
I have done the same 5-6 times last year. The last two or so hours drive through the mountains is a beautiful drive. But Ranong is not a bad place to stay a night, some good value hotels around and including 'the farmhouse hotel'. And the breakfast/cafe/coffee scene there is active. Very cheap weed in the few local shops. There's a few farmstays on the top of the mountains outside Ranong, but often very quiet, and more accommodations in Lang Suan, which is a huge
****
hub for distribution of the big heavy fruits grown around the mountains, durian/Jack fruit etc. And if you've not witnessed the breakfast/morning scene in Surat thani city, a 2-3km trail of street vendors along the waters edge there, and a morning market with vendors just laying out their goods on the road from 5am until morning. And I found a stewed pork shop, the same owner serving for over 50 years now, allegedly not a day off sick. There's certificates and newspaper/magazine articles on the walls, and photos with celebrities, and the fella looks at you while chopping the pork, not the pork itself. And he talks to every customer who comes in. I say talks, he shouts at every customer. They're setting up from about 3am everynight, amazing place. Under the CBD hotel. An alternative but similar road trip is to Pedang Besar/Sadao on Malaysian border. Fascinating border towns, like something out of a movie, 'Dusk till Dawn'. But close by, in the national park, the Wang Prachan Boundary post is a soft checkpoint to bounce, but nothing is guaranteed without an agent, which should be arranged regionally in advance. You can meet them as they arrive in the parking area just before the checkpoint if you prefer to drive/arrive yourself.
very detailed message. Usually we stay at the Lofthouse hotel which is really nice and so close to the bars and restaurants in Ranong. The drive is beautiful
yeah, I got time, and sometimes I wish I was able to read such info and experiences. There's a 'motorbiking in Thailand' group quite good for routes, attractions, places to stay, some members post travel diaries etc, if that's your thing.....
I think you don’t know what a multiple entry visa is. Yes it means I have to exit Thailand because otherwise it wouldn’t be an multiple entry would it. I’ve done these for a very long time. A 90 day report is if you get the extension while in Thailand if outside of Thailand it is called a multiple entry visa
there's nothing stopping him from visiting that Burmese Island every 3 months if he wants to. He will get stamped back in with his multiple entry visa. He must really like that Island.
if you have a multiple entry as an addition to your non O you can of course go in and out as much as you want. But you don't have to. I have a non O and I haven't been out of the country since 2015.
if the expiry is one year after it was issued that's when you have to leave. But in the meantime you will have to do 90 day reports at your local immigration office.
a multi entry visa allows you to leave and return to Thailand as many times as you want which extends a one year visa to 15 months. You don't have to go to Ranong every 3 months you can stay in Thailand for one full year if you want without leaving. You just have to report to immigration every 90 days to do a report which takes 5 minutes.
I have only ever applied for it when back in Australia visiting and this is the only option they issue regarding a non o. Even in the past when I have applied in Penang Malaysia it’s the same.
my non O has a one-year extension for retirement so I guess that's why I have been able to stay here for a number of years because it can be renewed here within Thailand and it requires only 90-day reports without having to leave.
yes , Tony is correct, no need to go out every 3 months on non o , only do 90 days at local immigration of your address. I too have the same visa for 10 years now.. call it learning money and just do free 90 days
Was reading you have to pay an “agent” there or immigration just ignore you ? people saying they was scammed on the boatride etc. i just went to Satun instead
you say you went Satun so I guess you are referring to a trip Tammalang Pier to Langkawi and back. I've wondered about this, and in particular the location of the immigration office at the Pier. Could you fill me in on that please? Thanks.
Context: I was more thinking of this as a mini-holiday in Malaysia rather than for visa purposes. In maybe a year's time when I'm back in Thailand.
I know langkawi to koh lipe, on the one ferry, the ferry staff take your passports at boarding, process immigration at sea, and give passports back when landing at koh lipe. But that sea border crossing was still closed August 2022 since covid.
I never got scammed by anyone even on the Myanmar side. Maybe these people get scammed no matter where they go. I have done so many visa runs and never been scammed 😌
It does seem a little unclear the way you wrote it.
You admit that the visa type you are using is uncommon, yet when asked exactly what the 2600 baht was for you act like it's normal & everyone should know then you don't give clear details.
Sounds like you got scammed, even though you say you didn't, & that's why you're avoiding answering clearly.
As someone else pointed out, & I can verify, normally you pay a shared boat directly to the boat driver 100 baht each way plus the Myanmar side entry permit of I think it was 500 baht.
It would be nice if you could be clearer.
It's not good when people support scams as it makes it harder for seasoned travelers.
you can take what you like from what I said. I never said my visa is uncommon. It’s very common. The fees you are talking about must have been a very long time ago because that’s not now. My post was letting people know that Ranong is very simple option for a border bounce. To pay 2600 thb with my Thai wife next to me I don’t think so. Everyone pays the same.
Other people said it's uncommon then perhaps. Obviously a lot of people are commenting on it in a way that makes that clear.
So, you paid an agent in an office next to Thai immigration which Thai immigration told you to use? That seems to be what you have attempted to communicate.
Everyone definitely does not pay the same. You got scammed. Locals definitely don't pay that. Next time just go directly to the boat drivers after stamping out. Don't support scammers & stuff it up for everyone else.
well you be the one to head down there and try to do it solo. There's only 2 immigration officers, one male one female, and they know who is passing out and back in, by the 'agents agent' either the boat driver himself, or an assistant on the boat or at the Dock. I was stopped once, some misunderstanding about my lengthy visa history that they should've been forwarned about, but apparently weren't, and the 'agents agent' had to get on the phone to the agents boss, I now know as 'The Captain', the phone was passed to the officer, who was told that I'm with 'the captain', I've paid up, and I'm good to go. And they called me back over, apologised, gave me a cold bottle of water and stamped me in. It was past closing time at this point. I've sat in the back office with the two staff and supervisor being offered khanom and talking freely about my ridiculous visa history and they seem reasonable people, if you're following their protocol.
I've done it solo there a number of times, & traveled overland all the way up to Dawei too even in Myanmar (when the road was first opened up to foreigners, actually).
Good to hear a bit more detail in your report. It's all very scammy there now though, but good to have the detail to help people judge if it really is impossible to do it with no bribe or not. Personally I would skip that place until it changes back to normal, perhaps after the civil war.
sounds like every immigration office countrywide. But yes, they will recommend you use local agents, and if they do so, and you ignore them, you'll understand the meaning of 'at the sole discretion of the immigration officer serving you' more than most. I wouldn't call it a scam any more than immigration as a whole. You can chose to agree to it, if you pay you get the service, no problem.

as far as I know, a border bounce at Ranong costs the price for the longtailboat across and return, and 500.- THB visa-on-arrival on the Myanmar side. What exactly were the 2600.- THB for? Did you have to pay this sum to the "Great Andaman Grand Hotel and Casino" for their service?
the very small immigration office, 2 front desk officers and occasional supervisor in back office, they like you to use the local businesses when visiting, to help the local economy and such. Being such a small office, they really can control the in's and out's, so they might recommend you engage one of the local agents to grease the wheels. Since that border point is not currently used by regional agents sending minibus loads, they don't get much tea money, so they do what they can to get by. With the exception of fingerprint readers, that 'port' has not progressed, nor had a lick of paint or even a jetwash in 24 years, since I first visited. And your 'fee' ensures that the immigration offices both sides stays open until you return. They are also relaxed and even forgiving about the annual limit of 2x land entries, but best to point this out to your agent first. And the price includes 'private boat transfer' but they'll always get someone else on your boat, but immediate departure, immediate service at Myanmar Immigration, and immediate departure back. Although I paid 1900 on 5-6 occasions last year, the last time it was more, but I was late, and expiry was that day. Money well spent.
With an METV The fee was never 1900, did it many times before covid. Around 100 baht per person for the boat ride,, $ 10 at Mynamar immigration.Job done. No fees checking in or out of Thailand. Unless youre being forced to use an agent there is no reason for those fees.
yes, gently coerced to use an agent, with the implication that re-entry could be made difficult for you if you do otherwise. It's wrong of course, but I won't be the one kicking up a stink.
there is no paying of $10 at immigration. Which border are you going to in Myanmar? When was the last time you went. I just got back last night? I don’t have a tourist visa but a non o visa so if you want an extension it’s always cost 1900 thb from my understanding
when you went to Myanmar immigration desk, just up from the boats, your boat driver or assistant went with you, they usually hold people's passports, and present to the officer when it's your turn, and he'll slip 500 baht of the money in your passport, or an envelope, or folded paper, to the officer, they don't make a big scene about it obviously. I saw this everytime, 5-6 times last year. Myanmar immigration have less to worry about when taking bribes than the thai immigration on the otherside.
Crossing from Ranong at the pier. I think Myanmar entry is Kawthaung. I lived in Khao Lak so that was nearest border crossing for me. I had multi entry non O. Everytime Myanmar Immigration at the pier charge 10 US dollars, it was like that for years. Maybe they have changed now.
because with my multiple entry I can not. It is a 12 month multi entry visa which received outside of Thailand. I have to exit every 90 days. I can not get an extension for another 90 days with this visa while in Thailand.
you should find out and know the difference between the visas so you know exactly what you are talking about and then you will know why I can’t do the extension at local immigration here in Thailand
because that’s the fee you have to pay at immigration to exit the country. I have gone to several borders and they all charge the same fee. I think it’s a small fee to be honest.
No I have not but I have been to other land borders and they never ever charge for letting you exit. And you said you have been to many borders and it's all the same. That's definately BS.
You don't have to pay to exit. Period.
Maybe it is a rogue immigration post and they scam people there idk.
it's not a fee charged to leave the country, but to smooth over your re-entry. Speaking to a few others, either on a boat or at either side of the water, they were all scaremongered into paying the agent fee. Maybe one was refused entry when arriving back on the thai side, and had to arrange with an agent to come and see him through onced paid. The way I see it, is that agents act as the cash collectors, that deal with the public, taking this dirty business away from the immigration desks and officers, and with it, any chance of being caught red handed taking cash over the counter while in a government position. And the agents kick on at a more suitable time and place, like pub carpark, out of office hours, so just a single cash transaction rather than maybe hundreds daily. At another bordercrossing last year I saw at least 10 minibuses, all full, 11-12 people, so 110-120 people, all paying agents fees. Even at just 500baht per head is 55,000-65,000 per day, so 275k - 325k per week, and 1.25million per month. There could be another 10 minibuses due that day, so a possible 2.5million a month collected, at just 500 baht per head. 30 million a year, at a very small, low traffic border crossing. It certainly won't be any less.
have you done so since covid ? If so, try it at Ranong, let's call their bluff. See if they do deny you for false reasons. I've never had a multi entry visa myself. I have the Elite Visa now, so I will miss all this funny stuff. And it's not a 're-entry fee', just the fee paid to visa agents that organise the border bounce and visa run trips. I got like 8x overstay stamps so I needed a little security ...
I think by paying this fee is why I’ve never been asked to show proof or income or account. Only thing needed was passport so it’s nice and easy. To me it’s worth it as I’ve never had any issues once I pay this
I have been to Malaysia, Cambodia, Myanmar and been charged the same each time. Maybe you’re right but I’ve never questioned it. Next time I will see if I can exit there without paying that fee. Better late than never 😅
I think you misunderstand. Immigration will scaremonger you into paying an agents to 'smooth' things over on your return. Maybe if you got all your paperwork in order and the 'three proofs' also, and with a not overly substantial visa history, you can try your luck at going solo, I just haven't had the patience to test it. An immigration officer can deny you without real reason using any number of other reasons, and if they just told you earlier that day, and to your face, to use an agent, they could get frustrated and cause problems, in this case, it means returning to the Myanmar side, where your visa is limited to a few miles, and possibly an overnight stay while trying to find an agent there. It would be interesting to know from those that have gone solo recently at this checkpoint. But I've read posts here from people being denied entry, and asking for help and what to do despite being told the agent route by immigration, and the answer is to find an agent that can smooth entry, for a fee. This isn't the only border point doing this, there are many. Also this affects mostly those with some visa history, especially tourist visas.

Ok that was a long time ago since I went to that border. Thanks
Hi, did you get your non O based on marriage to a Thai lady, or on having a Thai child? I got one years ago, 17 years to be exact. I got it at Thai consulate in UK, no Thai wife or child. On the e-visa portal if you select non-immigrant 'O' it only offers a three month visa, not a 12 month multiple entry, which I'd like to apply for. I am over 70 don't want the three month one, need the twelve month 'O' multiple entry.
Hi I applied for my non o back in Australia based on marriage to a Thai. That has changed now since it’s all online and you’re right it’s only a maximum of 3 months now. I think I will go to Penang in Malaysia for my next visa as I found them to be quite good in the past when I lived here previously.
I have a multi entry Non-O and I have to leave every 90 days. Not a problem as work takes me outside of Thailand... But I don't need to hand over any extra money when I re-enter... Will never be using Ranong... lol
yeah it’s much easier for me to apply outside of Thailand which is what I’ve done each time. You are right if I wanted to leave to fly out I would need to pay for a reentry permit each time which I haven’t done before. I’ve never applied for the extension while in Thailand
Yes, but as I’ve understand the multiple options now is being removed as an option in the E-visa system. We could apply for it until recently also in Norway, but now we are left just with the single entry option in the visa portal.🤷🏼♂️
I also of course believe him. It’s still Norwegians on a one year 90 days multiple entries tourist visa in Thailand, but now-recently- the multiple entry option is removed in the e-visa application and as I understand this is a general adaptation to the evisa system.
you can apply for a multiple entry visa in other countries just outside of Thailand. I will go to Malaysia for my next one because as you said the online system doesn’t have the multi entry as an option
