I do not have the time to wait and see and so I took out a policy from one of the complying Thai insurance companies today. 43,000bht (I am 65).
A word of caution to anyone travelling soon though, the policy states that cover starts 30 days after issuance of the policy, I am just in time for my soon trip out and return to Thailand.

The 30 days thing is standard for the first year. Might also be a bit longer for serious illness

Yes the old 30 day clause. They hate it when buy health insurance and rush out to use it.
The much prefer you to die first.
As for deductibles, somebody said none of these basic Thai policies offer it?

For those who have other health insurance that covers them in Thailand, then take the highest deductible to reduce cost of the O-A policy. Consider it an added cost of retirement in Thailand. Keeping your $$$ home earning interest ...which likewise reduces the net cost of the cheapest policy.

I am just reading in another place that Pacific cross have confirmed that if your using this Insurance for an O-A visa, they will NOT offer the deductibles in order for them to enter it on the database.
Thank you for your update. Tip...look at price of the O-A policy with high Deductibles ...300,000 Deductible reduces premium approx 50%

Yep,thanks for the wishing that they will accept their own formular. I prefer a proper insurance with unlimited coverage and no deductibles for my O-A visa stay. I will report back when the time is coming ... ;)

Bernd Moonfruit I do not seek to argue with any choice one may make...nor with the regulations implemented by the Thai government. We choose to retire here...Its up to you.
And as an insurance professional in America for 28+ years I do know value in health insurance policies when I see it. Be what it is...we are in Thailand.
Those who choose the O-A visa have choices to either purchase the insurance required, provide a Certificate of International Insurance per official firm, or find another available type of visa to live retirement in Thailand.
BTW...Good Luck and please report back your experience.
