TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the optimal visa options for visiting Thailand several times within a short period. A tourist visa can initially provide 60 days, and it can be extended once for another 30 days. Alternatively, a multi-entry tourist visa allows for multiple entries over six months, granting 60 days per entry. A retirement visa, while providing a longer stay initially, may complicate the traveler's plans due to its restrictions on re-entry.

A multi-entry tourist visa which is valid for 6 months from the date of issue would meet your requirements as it gives you 60 days per entry. A retirement visa is not multi-entry and gives you just 90 days unless extended and you don't want to jump through those hoops.

A tourist visa is applied for and paid for before you go to Thailand, and you get 60 days when you arrive. If you get a tourist visa then you wouldn't need to get an extension on your first trip.

If you arrive the 2nd time without a visa then you'll get visa exempt which is 30 days, and you can apply for one extension for an additional 30 days.
