Hi all, 

Does anyone know (like know for sure) if it's possible to convert an extension based on COVID into a non-b visa whilst remaining in the country? I was under the impression that it was definitely possible, but a potential employer has been told that it's not possible and I would have to leave Thailand to apply for a new visa.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

Hmm, And your "potential employer" was told this how? I'd say YOU need to slog out to the immigration office you use with a representative from your new employer and talk to the officers. Keep in mind a LOT of employers are still in the mindset that you have to leave to get a new Non-B visa (even with this covid shit show going on) which is just totally NOT true.

One more question, when you were on the year extension of the Non-B did you get paperwork from the old employer and cancel it before you went on the covid extension? IF so you MIGHT <- as in may be able to, just apply for a NEW yearly extension (because you haven't left the country and your stay can be tied back to the Non-B, the extension, the covid extension. I think that has a far higher chance of success. BUT again, you'd have to go with someone to the immigration office and see what your options are

as always super helpful. They said that their immigration specialist told them this when they contacted immigration office. Unfortunately I’m in a different city so it wasn’t an option to go with them, and my immigration office aren’t able to give me an answer (some say can some say cannot).

Yes, my one year extension was cancelled by my previous employer, and I was told previously that I’d be able to convert to a ED visa but only until the original one year extension date (March 2021) so I don’t understand why it wouldn’t be possible to get a new/ reinstate the non-b.

Anyway I’ll keep searching for an answer and let you know if I have any luck ☺️ Thanks Tod
