Hi. I have a single thai savings account keeping the 800k as well as monthly xfers of 65k. I regularly draw from the 65k for living expenses with a debit card.
I would like to seperate these to 2 different accounts so the 800k is 100% safe.
If I go to the bank and ask for a second account, is it important to keep the 800k in the same account? Or will immigration accept seeing it bump over to the other account?
I ask because of the debit card - if I should request one for the new account or if they tell me to use the one card for the current account. Hope that makes sense. I will ask the same question at the bank but welcome any pointers here for immigration purposes. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on whether they can separate their 800,000 THB savings for visa requirements into two different bank accounts while still complying with immigration regulations. They express concern about the implications of using a debit card and whether immigration will accept the funds being moved between accounts. Community responses suggest that it is advisable to keep the 800K in the same account for safety and to avoid potential complications during visa extension processes.

I had an account with Bangkok Bank with the 800,000 for the yearly visa extension. As I didn't want to touch that money I just opened a second account with Bangkok Bank which is used for day to day expenses.

You can just open a bank account at another bank if you don't want to touch the 800k.
this is my first year - must keep the 800k for 2 more months (total of 5) amd if I'm going to transition to 65k/month only next year, I need to be doing the 65k deposits now also.

try the current bank first with your desire for a second account... if not.. maybe open up an account in different bank for the 800K.... when the timing is correct??
I'm not sure if we misunderstand each other. My 2nd extension is on Nov 2025. If I now start transferring 65k/m then I only have 11 months on the day of my 2nd extension on Nov 2025. So I start transferring 65k/m Oct 2025 to have 12 months on the day of my 3rd extension on Nov 2026.
for sole reason of not trusting myself to accidentally overdraft from online payments, etc...

I did this a couple of years ago and kept the 800k in the same account. I explained what I wanted to do and the reasons and they cancelled the card for my original account and gave me a new one for my new account instead.
Having said that, I never use the debit card these days anyway as I always use the cardless withdrawal option on my phone, so I kind of wish I had opted to not have a card (if that's possible).
Lucky you. Bangkok bank tolme i canโt open a 2nd account with same passport. Mine is from isaan but Iโm living in Bangkok now. More convenient having a local branch
Bkk Bank. They told me I would have to get a Yellow book, a work permit or a letter from my embassy. I have a DL and a certificate of residency from immigration and they still said no.
youch! TiT it's amazing the different responses you can get simply depending on the individual at the bank. It's definitely possible to have 2 accounts at the same branch, because I have 2 and I didn't need to provide yellow book or work permit.
