Can I switch banks while maintaining the required funds for my Non O retirement visa in Thailand?

Hi,

Hopefully I can get some guidance here and this is not a repeat question ... I have searched but ......

I am on a Non O retirement visa using a bank deposit ... vs a pension.

Can I change banks if at all times I maintain the minimum THB400,000 deposit in the post 3 month period of my visa extension. ... as in I initially have two accounts with THB400,000 plus in them and then drain the old to fill the new.

So at my next renewal I will have statements from two different banks covering the 12 month period but collectively meeting all balance requirements.

Logically that seems ok to me but I know the system has its own intricacies!

I hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
An individual holding a Non O retirement visa in Thailand, supported by a bank deposit, seeks clarification on whether they can change banks while ensuring that they maintain the required minimum deposit of THB 400,000. It is noted that they plan to utilize two accounts to collectively meet the balance requirements for their visa extension. Comments indicate that this is possible as long as documentation is properly maintained and suggest consulting local immigration for clarity on potential issues.

Yes, it's possible if you do carefully. As you say, you need documents from two branches for next application.

BUT,

better to talk with your local immigration office before you move money. Some offices don't prefer those steps. Some don't have issue for you to do that way.

Make sure you will be prepared in advance.

Great. Thanks so much for that.

Why not simply keep your account with the 800k in and open a new account elsewhere for daily use?

I have 2 accounts like this and it makes things simpler for the annual extensions.

Thanks Stuart for the suggestion .... appreciate it but it doesn't answer my question.

My problem is logistical and I can either transfer my account to another branch or change banks..... given my current bank has proven to be the most inflexible and bureaucratic of the Thai banks it seems an opertune time to change banks if that was possible ..... hence the question.

that was the reason I answered with a question.

Moving your money is fraught with potential disaster, so personally I would try to avoid doing that.

I have moved provinces twice and not transfered/closed my account as most people seem to think you have to.

It is true that they refuse to transfer your account, but the new province has in my experience been willing to provide the documentation for the extension of stay at immigration.

Of course TiT, so I am not saying it will work everywhere.
