TLDR : Answer Summary
You can apply for a retirement extension in Thailand when you have 30 days or less remaining on your current visa at most immigration offices. However, some locations like Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Buriram allow applications when there are 45 days or less before visa expiration. It's advised to check for any new requirements, such as potential home visits by immigration officials.

Thanks for the answers, I thought it was two weeks or less. Next year I'll go earlier, I'm down to one week this year.

Usually 30 be prepared for some interesting new requirements. Some immigration offices now give a 30 day under consideration stamp and insist on house visits to check you actually live where you say.
not problem.. They are welcome any time. But have had word of slightly different "rules".... They obviously need to increase the bungs! Sushi.. I 've just received a 3 month extention today.. Had hoped for more (Phuket town)..... Quite happy for house visits... my (Thai) wife have been here 10+ years... No visits so far😀
maybe for where you are. Where I live immigration turn up and take photos and ask neighbours if you really live there and socialise with them .. and that’s on a retirement extension
