How long should I wait to apply for an ED Visa after a tourist visa denial in HCM?

Hi there,

A couple of months ago I applied for a tourist visa in Ho Chi Minh (my ED Visa papers weren't ready yet) and it was denied. Although I submitted all the required documents they were under no obligation to tell me why and I respect that.

My language school got panicky after that because obviously there was a double void stamp in my passport and there seemed to be confusion on their end as to where to send me next.

Because I had a tourist visa before that from KL and because of the recent crackdowns on back-to-back Tourist Visas, I have decided to err on the side of caution and go back home to Australia for a while. I fly out in November.

My question is, how long should I wait before applying again with my ED Visa papers at my home consulate?

Does that double void stamp from HCM mean I am somehow "red flagged" now?

In theory you can apply immediately, however you have to keep in mind that the papers from School have a limited validity.

The void stamp from the Consulate I can understand, never heard of an Immigration Officer at a checkpoint uses void stamps. They can only deny entry, they can not cancel or void a visa.

that's just the thing, I don't understand the "double void" stamp thing. One void was on it when I picked it up (to signal the rejection I assume), the other void was stamped in when I arrived in Chiang Mai.

So essentially I came in on a visa exempt.

I've had a couple of back to back visas 3 years ago and one ED Visa 1.5 years ago. This was to be my second year ED for Thai language.

Possibly get the METV in Australia??? Explore that option...would give you up to possible 6-9 months in Thailand...then do the Ed visa as following step ..???

And Australia is good decision to obtain your next visa. But Thai Immigration may ask when you do return. Be prepared and hopefully you will enjoy Thailand again.

Anne M. Buckley are you still an ESL Teacher in Chiang Mai at DaDa ABC School ? If so.. You need an NonB Visa which will allow your employer to get a work permit for you.

Then the err on the side of caution should be the Non Immigrant B visa and the Work Permit. She just got the documents from her school for a new ED visa.

yes. Only because originally it wasn't supposed to be a tourist visa I was applying for, but an ED one. The papers weren't ready in time.
