TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus among expats is that you generally do not need to inform immigration upon returning from a holiday within Thailand if your residence remains the same. However, there are some differing opinions, with suggestions to check with your local immigration office for their specific policies. It is important to complete your 90-day report online, maintaining updated residential information. Ultimately, practices may vary by immigration office.
interesting. Perhaps the online 90 day report just sends it to the local immigration office and just like most other things they each have their own rules. The rejection emails specifically state that I needed to update the tm30 and lists the hotel that registered me. I rarely go 90 days without staying in a hotel somewhere which is why mine are never successful. Perhaps they would be if I had the owner re-file every time I returned home, but I never bother them. It's always been quick and easy to pop into immigration and take care of both here.
if you stay in a hotel that does the tm30 then the online 90 day report won't work. Maybe it does if you do another tm30 when you return home, but I've had them rejected because it doesn't match the last tm30 filed. Which was by the hotel.

You need to ask your immigration office what their policy is. Every office has their own policy on this
