I'm confused about this amnesty thing regarding one-year visa extensions. Do people on marriage/retirement extensions etc not have to renew them until after July or whenever the new amnesty is? In my situation, I am on a visa extension for having Thai kids, which ends in September. I am waiting for my name to appear in the Royal Gazette, granting me Thai citizenship but this could take a couple or 3  months. I really don't want to have to get another extension, which means showing money in the bank, although only for a day.

If you’re too tight to extend on a temp visa then more fool you for risking it.

For the sake of the cost of a yearly extension, why dont you do it and be 100% sure you are covered? If your citizenship arrives after, all you've lost is a couple of thousand baht . Small price to pay for 12 months of assurance.

If your imm office isn't sure.. then just play safe and get an extension. Amnesty will be totally irrelevant if you have a yearly extension and it will buy you plenty of time for your citizenship to play out.

I got a yearly spouse extension last month and I dont have to worry about amnesty dates anymore .

It would seem really nuts to me to potentially jeopardise your citizenship over this. One of the criteria is continuous residence, who knows if your going onto amnesty would be considered to break this. Why risk it.

The "grace period" they have mooted is to Sept 26, it's probably only a few days more than you have now anyway.

Indeed, I will if required, but obviously rather wouldn't. Not sure if the announcement in the Gazette will be enough or if they need the letter of Naturalization or ID card(which takes a bit longer), my immigration office has never done this before.
