I was just at Kantang Immigration for my 90 day report. While there I asked about my one year extension. US passport on a one year extension of stay based on marriage - that extension expires end of June.  They said I had to apply for a new extension before end of June. That I could not wait until end of July (amnesty doesn't apply).  Wondering if others are hearing differently.

Following up. I finally got through to 1178. They asked if I plan to stay or leave Thailand. If I plan to stay I have to renew before expiration. If I plan on leaving I can just wait until end of Amnesty and leave then (no problems). However, if I don't renew before expiration and then change my mind after expiration too bad I would have to leave and get a new visa.

I think they're just making that up because the way the amnesty will end (especially for foreigners on long stay extensions) has not been written

That is why we're saying IF you are on a long stay extension just go and get your extension when it comes due like you always do.

It is this group's belief that extension of stays are NOT covered by the amnesty, and should be acquired as normal.

indeed after calling 1178 to confirm this thought several days ago I was told to get the extension as usual as come July 31 I will have no extension to stay. Important for me as I want to apply for permanent residency this year.
