Hi guys, 

i’m going to thailand in less than a month and i’m staying for exactly 34 days

i’m italian, do i need to apply to a tourist visa for 4 days more? what do i risk if i don’t and would i be on time if apply asap?

Thats true *if* you surrender at immigration at an airport (and the overstay is under 90 days).

However, if you are arrested or questioned by officials, and it is discovered that you are on an overstay of *any* length, then you can and will face a 5 year blacklist.

Usually this applied only to people arrested for, say, some stupid drunk shit.

However, there have been people subjected to spot checks (on Samui, for example), and then getting a ban for just a 1 day overstay.

Indeed. Can happen if you're traveling at night in a border area close to the Burmese border and by night I mean anytime after dark so even just shortly after 7pm. If you don't speak Thai, they'll insist on seeing your passport and can detain you for even a 1 day overstay.

I think it will be cheaper to get a 60 day visa as it's 1900 baht for a 30 day extension and you don't want a 4 day overstay

exactly this. Heck, even if I am there just for 2 weeks I get the 60 days. Things change and is always good to have extra days in your back pocket with the hassle or extra expense of extensions.

you'll go to any immigration office while in Thailand, 10 days before your exemption stamp (30 days) expires, and you get there an extension (additional 30 days) at a price of 1900 baht

The Thai embassy in Italy has adopted the evisa system which means everything is done online and your visa is sent to you by email.

You should have plenty of time to get it if you apply immediately.

If you don't apply, you need to check with your airline to see if they will let you board your flight without proof that you'll be leaving Thailand within 30 days.

You'll also need to spend between 2-6 hours of your trip, plus travel time, at an immigration office applying for a 30 day extension of your visa exempt entry.
