TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the possibility of a business sponsoring an individual for remote work in Thailand. Participants confirm that it is feasible, especially for independent contractors. It's crucial to have a letter specifying the eligibility for remote work, regardless of business type, though certain businesses, like restaurants, might have limitations. Suggestions include framing the individual as a remote manager if employees are present, and noting that one may also operate as a consultant, which broadens the scope for remote work. Documentation proving the remote work arrangement is essential.

Thanks for the feedback. My next question- what information should be included in this letter?
Keith *****************
Absolutely

Normally yes, but it depends on the type of business. Let's say your business is a restaurant, or dental clinic, then normally you wouldn't be able to work remotely, would you?

What does the letter need to state?

What if you have a business that you can't work remotely? For example, I'm an aesthetician and I own a lash extension /waxing studio. Could I still use it?

You're ALSO a consultant. That allows you to work anyplace.😉

thank you!!!!

@Aisha *************
yes. If you have employees working it you can put yourself as a remote manager. I have a physical business and that’s what I did

thanks for replying! I work solely for myself, but I guess I can say that I have employees working it 🤷🏽‍♀️... I'm gonna try

apply under soft power and note you won't be able to work in Thailand

will do! Thank you🙏🏽

Yes. Just have documentation explaining this and proving it.

You can have your own business and be an independent contractor in your own business.

Not legal/possible in my country, tho. But I'm sure it will be possible in other countries.

Yes I did.
Richard ******
Yes it can
@T**
, I am doing the same as a registered business owner in Australia. I prepared a letter stating that my role within the company was eligible for remote work.

how are you going to handle becoming a tax resident if you stay longer than 180 days ? Really looking for anyone who has any experience or info about this. I’m Australian I know they have a DTA but wondering how it will work
Richard ******
My understanding is at no stage should you be paying Thai tax on wages when using the DTV visa
@Marb *******
. Please note I am not an expert and only submitted one application for this myself. I also have many questions only need answering.
Richard ******
I don’t plan on becoming a tax resident Marb. I will be doing a border run to Cambodia after 6 months 180 days. I believe this eliminate the requirement for a Thai bank balance and to show proof of income again.
Marb ********
@Richard *****
yes but like David said, doing a border run does not reset your 180 days in Thailand per year. Unless by border run you mean leaving after 6 months and staying in Cambodia for 6 months too then returning?
David ******
@Richard *****
Borderrun implies, you come back again? So you are in Thailand for more then 183 days a year? Then you will have to file for taxes. The tax resident status and the visa status are not linked to eachother.

@Richard *****
hey Richard any chance you can flick me the letter you prepared 🙏 I operate via company/trust structure in Australia. What other documents did have you provided (business bank statements or tax returns etc?) or just the letter?? Appreciate any guidance ☺️
Richard ******
Let me see if I can send a copy of the PDF here Simone. If not, I’ll grab an email address from you and happily send you a copy of it.
