Hello there.

Is it possible to make a switch from a one year extension of stay from University (ED) to a one year marriage extension at CW? 

I went to the immigration at CW last week and talked to a few officers there. They all insisted that I would need to get out of the country and get a Non-O marriage visa outside of Thailand then apply for a one year extension after.

If anyone has done it recently or knows any agents, please PM me. 🙏

Thanks for the replies. I think I am leaning towards getting a visa in Savannakhet. Asked several agents and as Stuart mentioned, all offers were pretty hefty. Will have my ED cancelled before the trip. Thanks!

if you choose to go to savannakhet, be aware that there were reports of people getting denied the visa if they did the trip alone without their spouse. I think it's a new requirements that both spouses show up at the consulate.

yeah I will go with my wife if I indeed go there. Still weighing my options and I may just do it at CW with 400k.

try Ho Chi Minh. Consulate there are very nice and helpful. Send them a message asking what docs they require. Prepare them, and you will be done within 10min!!! Go next day to collect passport.....2 minutes

I checked HCM website and takes full 2 working days? That may not work for me, unfortunately although I would love to go there instead.

first you deposit all docs...takes 5 min if all in order. Then, you pay at the next window....just another minute. They will ask you to go back next day at 13:00 to collect passport ....will only take 2 minutes

I read on their website if I were to apply it on Friday, pick up on Tuesday, not Monday, which means it basically takes 3 working days including the day you submit all the documents.

You might find an agent for some hefty $$$$ but I’m not sure if it’s something they can do.

Generally you need to leave to “break” the ED visa/extensions.
